Mountain climber outdoor motivation and safety behavior: Does role clarity and safety cognition make a difference to participant safety?

    Gengan Wu1,#, Anqi Jiang1,#, Zihan Chen2, Xinwei Su3,4,*

    Journal of Psychology in Africa, Vol.35, No.6, pp. 853-861, 2025, DOI:10.32604/jpa.2025.073822 - 30 December 2025

Abstract This study examined the role of role clarity and safety cognition in shaping mountain climbers’ participation motivation and safety behavior. The study sample comprised 454 participants (males = 58.8%, mean age = 32 years, SD = 9.31). They completed measures on five participation motivation dimensions (achievement, interest, knowledge, socialization, and health) and safety participation. The results from structural equation modelling indicated that participant motivations in achievement, health, and knowledge significantly predicted safety participation behavior, such as risk avoidance, self-protection, and mutual assistance, more so than the motivations of interest and socialization. Role clarity moderated the More >

Does problematic mobile phone use affect facial emotion recognition?

    Bowei Go, Xianli An*

    Journal of Psychology in Africa, Vol.35, No.4, pp. 523-533, 2025, DOI:10.32604/jpa.2025.070123 - 17 August 2025

Abstract This study investigated the impact of problematic mobile phone use (PMPU) on emotion recognition. The PMPU levels of 150 participants were measured using the standardized SAS-SV scale. Based on the SAS-SV cutoff scores, participants were divided into PMPU and Control groups. These participants completed two emotion recognition experiments involving facial emotion stimuli that had been manipulated to varying emotional intensities using Morph software. Experiment 1 (n = 75) assessed differences in facial emotion detection accuracy. Experiment 2 (n = 75), based on signal detection theory, examined differences in hit and false alarm rates across emotional expressions. More >

How does perceived human-computer interaction affect employee helping behavior?

    Xin Liu1,*, Zimeng Chen2

    Journal of Psychology in Africa, Vol.35, No.2, pp. 257-263, 2025, DOI:10.32604/jpa.2025.065782 - 30 June 2025

Abstract This study examined how perceived human-computer interaction (HCI) is related to employees’ helping behaviors with role breadth self-efficacy and digital fluency. An online scenario experiment (study 1; female = 61.3%; mean age = 30.79 years; bachelor’s degree = 68.7%) and a questionnaire survey (study 2; male = 44.2%; younger than 30 years = 50.6%; bachelor’s degree = 61.5%) found that perceived HCI exerts a significant positive indirect effect on employee helping behavior through improved role breadth self-efficacy. This positive indirect effect is stronger when employee digital fluency is high. Findings are consistent with social cognitive More >

Does artificial intelligence (AI) anxiety increase employees’ deviant behavior toward the organization? The role of emotional exhaustion and leadership support

Chengcheng Sha, Lin Wang, Xiaolei Pan*

    Journal of Psychology in Africa, Vol.35, No.2, pp. 207-214, 2025, DOI:10.32604/jpa.2025.065761 - 30 June 2025

Abstract This study investigated the relationship between AI anxiety and deviant behavior, as well as the roles of emotional exhaustion and leader support in this context. The sample comprised 381 Chinese e-commerce employees (72.7% female, age range 21–36 years). The results of the Process model analysis indicate that AI anxiety significantly is associated with higher deviant behaviour. Emotional exhaustion partially mediates this relationship between AI anxiety and employee deviant behavior exacerbating deviant behaviour. Leader support moderates the AI anxiety effect on emotional exhaustion such that when leader support is low. AI anxiety is associated with higher More >

How does Hedgehog signaling participate in the cross-interaction of hormones and testis development?

    JUN-JIE YU, WAN-XI YANG*

    BIOCELL, Vol.49, No.1, pp. 93-107, 2025, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2024.058299 - 24 January 2025

Abstract Hedgehog (HH) signaling has been researched for decades and Hedgehog has 3 homologs: Sonic Hedgehog (Shh), Indian Hedgehog (Ihh), and Desert Hedgehog (Dhh). Dhh is the one involved in male gonad and germ cell development. The distribution of molecules in Hedgehog signaling in testis indicated that Hedgehog signaling executes important functions during testis development. The patients with Dhh signaling deficiency develop dysgenesis of gonads and hormone production which demands further exploration of gonad HH signaling. Some results proved the indispensable roles of HH signaling in gonad and germ cell development and the interaction with More > Graphic Abstract
