    Sonia Goel1,#, Meena Tushir1, Jyoti Arora2, Tripti Sharma2, Deepali Gupta3, Ali Nauman4,#, Ghulam Muhammad5,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.81, No.2, pp. 3125-3145, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2024.054476 - 18 November 2024

Abstract In numerous real-world healthcare applications, handling incomplete medical data poses significant challenges for missing value imputation and subsequent clustering or classification tasks. Traditional approaches often rely on statistical methods for imputation, which may yield suboptimal results and be computationally intensive. This paper aims to integrate imputation and clustering techniques to enhance the classification of incomplete medical data with improved accuracy. Conventional classification methods are ill-suited for incomplete medical data. To enhance efficiency without compromising accuracy, this paper introduces a novel approach that combines imputation and clustering for the classification of incomplete data. Initially, the linear More >

Cost-Sensitive Dual-Stream Residual Networks for Imbalanced Classification

    Congcong Ma1,2, Jiaqi Mi1, Wanlin Gao1,2, Sha Tao1,2,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.80, No.3, pp. 4243-4261, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2024.054506 - 12 September 2024

Abstract Imbalanced data classification is the task of classifying datasets where there is a significant disparity in the number of samples between different classes. This task is prevalent in practical scenarios such as industrial fault diagnosis, network intrusion detection, cancer detection, etc. In imbalanced classification tasks, the focus is typically on achieving high recognition accuracy for the minority class. However, due to the challenges presented by imbalanced multi-class datasets, such as the scarcity of samples in minority classes and complex inter-class relationships with overlapping boundaries, existing methods often do not perform well in multi-class imbalanced data… More >

Abstract Machine learning (ML) and data mining are used in various fields such as data analysis, prediction, image processing and especially in healthcare. Researchers in the past decade have focused on applying ML and data mining to generate conclusions from historical data in order to improve healthcare systems by making predictions about the results. Using ML algorithms, researchers have developed applications for decision support, analyzed clinical aspects, extracted informative information from historical data, predicted the outcomes and categorized diseases which help physicians make better decisions. It is observed that there is a huge difference between women… More >

An Imbalanced Data Classification Method Based on Hybrid Resampling and Fine Cost Sensitive Support Vector Machine

Bo Zhu*, Xiaona Jing, Lan Qiu, Runbo Li

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.79, No.3, pp. 3977-3999, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2024.048062 - 20 June 2024

Abstract When building a classification model, the scenario where the samples of one class are significantly more than those of the other class is called data imbalance. Data imbalance causes the trained classification model to be in favor of the majority class (usually defined as the negative class), which may do harm to the accuracy of the minority class (usually defined as the positive class), and then lead to poor overall performance of the model. A method called MSHR-FCSSVM for solving imbalanced data classification is proposed in this article, which is based on a new hybrid… More >

    Radwan Abu-Gdairi1, R. Mareay2,*, M. Badr3

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.79, No.1, pp. 1025-1038, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2024.048647 - 25 April 2024

Abstract Recently, much interest has been given to multi-granulation rough sets (MGRS), and various types of MGRS models have been developed from different viewpoints. In this paper, we introduce two techniques for the classification of MGRS. Firstly, we generate multi-topologies from multi-relations defined in the universe. Hence, a novel approximation space is established by leveraging the underlying topological structure. The characteristics of the newly proposed approximation space are discussed. We introduce an algorithm for the reduction of multi-relations. Secondly, a new approach for the classification of MGRS based on neighborhood concepts is introduced. Finally, a real-life More >

Abstract Data mining plays a crucial role in extracting meaningful knowledge from large-scale data repositories, such as data warehouses and databases. Association rule mining, a fundamental process in data mining, involves discovering correlations, patterns, and causal structures within datasets. In the healthcare domain, association rules offer valuable opportunities for building knowledge bases, enabling intelligent diagnoses, and extracting invaluable information rapidly. This paper presents a novel approach called the Machine Learning based Association Rule Mining and Classification for Healthcare Data Management System (MLARMC-HDMS). The MLARMC-HDMS technique integrates classification and association rule mining (ARM) processes. Initially, the chimp… More >

Pancreatic Cancer Data Classification with Quantum Machine Learning

    Amit Saxena1, Smita Saxena2,*

    Journal of Quantum Computing, Vol.5, pp. 1-13, 2023, DOI:10.32604/jqc.2023.044555 - 09 November 2023

Abstract Quantum computing is a promising new approach to tackle the complex real-world computational problems by harnessing the power of quantum mechanics principles. The inherent parallelism and exponential computational power of quantum systems hold the potential to outpace classical counterparts in solving complex optimization problems, which are pervasive in machine learning. Quantum Support Vector Machine (QSVM) is a quantum machine learning algorithm inspired by classical Support Vector Machine (SVM) that exploits quantum parallelism to efficiently classify data points in high-dimensional feature spaces. We provide a comprehensive overview of the underlying principles of QSVM, elucidating how different… More >

Abstract Big data analytics is a popular research topic due to its applicability in various real time applications. The recent advent of machine learning and deep learning models can be applied to analyze big data with better performance. Since big data involves numerous features and necessitates high computational time, feature selection methodologies using metaheuristic optimization algorithms can be adopted to choose optimum set of features and thereby improves the overall classification performance. This study proposes a new sigmoid butterfly optimization method with an optimum gated recurrent unit (SBOA-OGRU) model for big data classification in Apache Spark. More >

Abstract Acute leukemia is an aggressive disease that has high mortality rates worldwide. The error rate can be as high as 40% when classifying acute leukemia into its subtypes. So, there is an urgent need to support hematologists during the classification process. More than two decades ago, researchers used microarray gene expression data to classify cancer and adopted acute leukemia as a test case. The high classification accuracy they achieved confirmed that it is possible to classify cancer subtypes using microarray gene expression data. Ensemble machine learning is an effective method that combines individual classifiers to… More >
