Effect of Heatpipe Array Condenser Section Length on Thermal Cooling of Li-Ion Batteries

    Olanrewaju M. Oyewola1,*, Olawale S. Ismail2, Adetokunbo A. Awonusi2

    Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.22, No.2, pp. 475-490, 2024, DOI:10.32604/fhmt.2024.047714 - 20 May 2024

Abstract One of the new methods for ensuring that the battery in a thermal energy storage system is kept at the proper temperature is the heat pipe-based Thermal Management System (TMS). In this study, the improvement of cooling performance of a heat pipe based TMS is examined through the variation of condenser section length of heat pipes in an array. The TMSs with an array of heat pipes with different condenser section lengths are considered. The system performances are evaluated using a validated numerical method. The results show that a heat pipe-based TMS provides the best More >

Research on Condenser Deterioration Evolution Trend Based on ANP-EWM Fusion Health Degree

    Hong Qian1,2, Haixin Wang1,*, Guangji Wang3, Qingyun Yan4

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.139, No.1, pp. 679-698, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2023.043377 - 30 December 2023

Abstract This study presents a proposed method for assessing the condition and predicting the future status of condensers operating in seawater over an extended period. The aim is to address the problems of scaling and corrosion, which lead to increased loss of cold resources. The method involves utilising a set of multivariate feature parameters associated with the condenser as input for evaluation and trend prediction. This methodology offers a precise means of determining the optimal timing for condenser cleaning, with the ultimate goal of improving its overall performance. The proposed approach involves the integration of the… More >

In Tube Condensation: Changing the Pressure Drop into a Temperature Difference for a Wire-on-Tube Heat Exchanger

Louay Abd Al-Azez Mahdi, Mohammed A. Fayad, Miqdam T. Chaichan*

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.9, pp. 2201-2214, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.027166 - 16 May 2023

Abstract A theoretical study based on the Penalty factor (PF) method by Cavallini et al. is conducted to show that the pressure drop occurring in a wire-on-tube heat exchanger can be converted into a temperature difference for two types of refrigerants R-134a and R-600a typically used for charging refrigerators and freezers. The following conditions are considered: stratified or stratified-wavy flow condensation occurring inside the smooth tube of a wire-on-tube condenser with diameter 3.25, 4.83, and 6.299 mm, condensation temperatures 35°C, 45°C, and 54.4°C and cover refrigerant mass flow rate spanning the interval from 1 to 7 kg/hr.… More > Graphic Abstract

EXERGY ANALYSIS OF A REFRIGERATION SYSTEM WITH A MINICHANNEL CONDENSER USING R134A REFRIGERANT

Vijay W. Bhatkara,*, Anirban Surb,*, Anindita Royb

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.19, pp. 1-7, 2022, DOI:10.5098/hmt.19.15

Abstract Versatile vapor compression refrigeration system is designed, developed and fabricated such that desired condensing and evaporating temperatures can be obtained by providing different electronic controls for superheating, subcooling, fan speed, air heaters and water heatersto use alternative refrigerants to R134a such as R1234ze, R152a, R600a, R290 and R290/R600a (50/50%) with conventional and minichannel condenser. All the refrigerant are tested for condensing temperature ranging from 40 °C to 55 °C while evaporating temperature changes from -10 °C to 15 °C for both condensers. The total exergy loss for main system components such as compressor, condenser, expansion… More >

AN ULTIMATE SOLUTION TO PHASING OUT FOSSIL FUELS – PART II: AIR-WATER THERMAL POWER PLANTS FOR UTILITY-SCALE POWER PRODUCTION AT LOW TEMPERATURES

    Yiding Cao

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.19, pp. 1-16, 2022, DOI:10.5098/hmt.19.2

Abstract This paper introduces a novel air-water thermal power plant working at low temperatures and employing hot water as a heat-supply fluid to produce utility-scale power with high second-law efficiency. The air-water power plant uses both air and water as working fluids and employs a direct-contact mass and heat transfer packing to facilitate latent heat (in terms of vapor) and sensible heat transfer from the hot water to moist air for expansion in a gas turbine to produce power. A cycle analysis indicates that with a heat source temperature of around 100o C, the power plant… More >

Fluid Flow and Convective Heat Transfer in a Water Chemical Condenser

    Mounir Kriraa1,2,*, Khalid Souhar3, Driss Achemlal4, Youssef Ait Yassine5,6, Abdelmajid Farchi1

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.16, No.2, pp. 199-209, 2020, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2020.07986 - 21 April 2020

Abstract In this paper, a detailed investigation of water (Pr ¼ 7:0) convection in a chemical condenser is carried out. Two openings are located along one side of the cavity. The Navier-Stokes equations are solved in the frame of a control volume method using the SIMPLEC algorithm to implement adequate coupling of pressure and velocity. Special emphasis is given to the influence of the Reynolds number, the tilt of the channel and the Rayleigh number on the convective heat transfer. Results are presented and discussed allowing the control parameters to span relatively wide intervals: Rayleigh number (104 More >

MECHANISMS AND APPLICATIONS OF CATALYTIC COMBUSTION OF NATURAL GAS*

Shihong Zhang#, Ning Li, Zhihua Wang

    Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.2, No.3, pp. 1-5, 2011, DOI:10.5098/hmt.v2.3.3004

Abstract This article discussed the thermal efficiency, stability and pollutant emissions characteristics of the combustion of lean natural gas-air mixtures in Pd metal based honeycomb monoliths by means of experiments on a practical burner V. The chemistry at work in the monoliths was then investigated by the stagnation point flow reactor( SPFR), a fundamental experimental reactor. It was found that catalytic combustion inhibited the extent of gas-phase oxidation and increased the surface temperature of homogeneous ignition. According to the applications of catalytic combustion in the condenser boiler, the data of catalytic combustion condenser boiler V were More >
