    Energy Engineering, Vol.121, No.6, pp. 1495-1519, 2024, DOI:10.32604/ee.2024.047832 - 21 May 2024

Abstract The determination of source-side extracted heating parameters is of great significance to the economic operation of cogeneration systems. This paper investigated the coupling performance of a cogeneration heating and power system multidimensionally based on the operating characteristics of the cogeneration units, the hydraulic and thermodynamic characteristics of the heating network, and the energy loads. Taking a steam network supported by a gas-steam combined cycle cogeneration system as the research case, the interaction effect among the source-side prime movers, the heating networks, and the terminal demand thermal parameters were investigated based on the designed values, the… More >

Simulation Analysis of Flue Gas Waste Heat Utilization Retrofit Based on ORC System

    Liqing Yan1, Jiang Liu1,2,*, Guangwei Ying3, Ning Zhang4

    Energy Engineering, Vol.120, No.8, pp. 1919-1938, 2023, DOI:10.32604/ee.2023.027546 - 05 June 2023

Abstract Recovery of waste heat from boiler flue gas is an effective way to improve energy utilization efficiency. Taking a heating station heating project as an example, the existing heating system of this heating station was analyzed for its underutilized flue gas waste heat and low energy utilization rate. Rankine cycle is an effective waste heat recovery method, and a steam boiler organic Rankine cycle (ORC) cogeneration waste heat utilization method is proposed. The system model simulation is constructed and verified. First, a thermodynamic model was constructed in MATLAB and five suitable work gases were selected More > Graphic Abstract

Evaluation of Process and Economic Feasibility of Implementing a Topping Cycle Cogeneration

    Unique Karki*, Bhaskaran Gopalakrishnan

    Energy Engineering, Vol.120, No.2, pp. 345-365, 2023, DOI:10.32604/ee.2023.025600 - 29 November 2022

Abstract Industrial applications that require steam for their end-use generally utilize steam boilers that are typically oversized, citing operations flexibility. Similarly, gas turbine-based power plants corroborate a gas turbine system that may eventually relieve the usable exhaust into the atmosphere. This study explores the economic and technical feasibility of a topping cycle combined heat and power (CHP) system. It does so by leveraging a partially loaded boiler or gas turbine by increasing its unused load to generate steam and heat for subsequent usage. To this end, a decision support tool (COGENTEC) was developed, which emulates a… More > Graphic Abstract

Optimal Scheduling Method of Cogeneration System with Heat Storage Device Based on Memetic Algorithm

    Haibo Li1,*, Yibao Wang1, Xinfu Pang1, Wei Liu1, Xu Zhang2

    Energy Engineering, Vol.120, No.2, pp. 317-343, 2023, DOI:10.32604/ee.2023.023715 - 29 November 2022

Abstract Electric-heat coupling characteristics of a cogeneration system and the operating mode of fixing electricity with heat are the main reasons for wind abandonment during the heating season in the Three North area. To improve the wind-power absorption capacity and operating economy of the system, the structure of the system is improved by adding a heat storage device and an electric boiler. First, aiming at the minimum operating cost of the system, the optimal scheduling model of the cogeneration system, including a heat storage device and electric boiler, is constructed. Second, according to the characteristics of… More >

    Larbi Afif*, Nahla Bouaziz

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.18, No.5, pp. 1243-1251, 2022, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.021831 - 27 May 2022

Abstract In the present work, a novel Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) configuration is used for a low-grade heat source cogeneration plant. An investigation is conducted accordingly into the simultaneous production of electricity and cold. The proposed configuration relies on concentrated solar power (as heat source) and ambient air (for cooling). Furthermore, two gas ejectors are added to the system in order to optimize the thermodynamic efficiency of the organic Rankine cycle. The results show that the thermodynamic and geometric parameters related to these ejectors have an important effect on the overall system performances. In order to More >
