Abstract A particular type of endogenous noncoding RNAs known as circular RNAs (circRNAs) has now become possible biomarkers for several diseases because of their stability and tissue-specific expression patterns. CircRNAs might play a role in various of biological processes. The identification of particular circRNAs dysregulated in pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) raises the possibility of these molecules serving as biomarkers for the disease’s early diagnosis and treatment. This review mainly summarizes the role and potential of circRNA as a future biomarker in PAH related to congenital heart disease. This study presented several potential circRNA targets as diagnostic More > Graphic Abstract

    Oncology Research, Vol.32, No.11, pp. 1747-1763, 2024, DOI:10.32604/or.2024.030945 - 16 October 2024

Abstract Background: Papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) is the most prevalent histological type of differentiated thyroid malignancy. Circular RNAs (circRNAs) have been implicated in the pathogenesis and progression of various cancers. circTIAM1 (hsa_circ_0061406) is a novel circRNA with aberrant expression in PTC. However, its functional roles in PTC progression remain to be investigated. Methods: The expression levels of circTIAM1 in the PTC and the matched para-cancerous tissues were detected by quantitative real-time reverse-transcription PCR (qRT-PCR). The subcellular localization of circTIAM1 was examined by fluorescence in-situ hybridization (FISH). Kaplan-Meier plot was used to analyze the association of clinicopathological features… More >

Abstract Circular RNAs (circRNAs) have been recognized as pivotal regulators in tumorigenesis, yet the biological functions as well as molecular mechanisms of the majority of circRNAs in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remain elusive. We sought to unveil the expression profile and biological role of circMYBL2 in HCC. Initial microarray analyses were conducted to probe the expression profile of circMYBL2 in HCC cells, and qRT‒PCR analysis was then performed in HCC cell lines and tissues, revealing significant upregulation of circMYBL2. Subsequent experiments were conducted to evaluate the biological function of circMYBL2 in HCC progression. Furthermore, bioinformatics analysis, qRT‒PCR… More >

Circular RNAs in breast cancer diagnosis, treatment and prognosis

    XIAOJIA HUANG1,#, CAILU SONG2,#, JINHUI ZHANG2, LEWEI ZHU3,*, HAILIN TANG2,*

    Oncology Research, Vol.32, No.2, pp. 241-249, 2024, DOI:10.32604/or.2023.046582 - 28 December 2023

Abstract Breast cancer has surpassed lung cancer to become the most common malignancy worldwide. The incidence rate and mortality rate of breast cancer continue to rise, which leads to a great burden on public health. Circular RNAs (circRNAs), a new class of noncoding RNAs (ncRNAs), have been recognized as important oncogenes or suppressors in regulating cancer initiation and progression. In breast cancer, circRNAs have significant roles in tumorigenesis, recurrence and multidrug resistance that are mediated by various mechanisms. Therefore, circRNAs may serve as promising targets of therapeutic strategies for breast cancer management. This study reviews the More >
