    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.93, No.1, pp. 119-135, 2024, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2023.046075 - 26 January 2024

Abstract Root exudates serve as crucial mediators for information exchange between plants and soil, and are an important evolutionary mechanism for plants’ adaptation to environmental changes. In this study, 15 different abiotic stress models were established using various stress factors, including drought (D), high temperature (T), nitrogen deficiency (N), phosphorus deficiency (P), and their combinations. We investigated their effects on the seedling growth of Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge and the activities of Solid-Urease (S-UE), Solid-Nitrite Reductase (S-NiR), Solid-Nitrate Reductase (S-NR), Solid-Phosphotransferase (S-PT), and Solid-Catalase (S-CAT), as well as the contents of polysaccharides in the culture medium. The results… More >

Optimisation Strategy of Carbon Dioxide Methanation Technology Based on Microbial Electrolysis Cells

Qifen Li, Xiaoxiao Yan*, Yongwen Yang, Liting Zhang, Yuanbo Hou

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.11, No.7, pp. 3177-3191, 2023, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2023.027749 - 05 June 2023

Abstract Microbial Electrolytic Cell (MEC) is an electrochemical reaction device that uses electrical energy as an energy input and microorganisms as catalysts to produce fuels and chemicals. The regenerative electrochemical system is a MEC improvement system for methane gas produced by biological carbon sequestration technology using renewable energy sources to provide a voltage environment. In response to the influence of fluctuating disturbances of renewable electricity and the long system start-up time, this paper analyzes the characteristics of two strategies, regulating voltage parameter changes and activated sludge pretreatment, on the methane production efficiency of the renewable gas… More >

A Comprehensive Study on the Process of Greenhouse Gas Sequestration Based on a Microporous Media Model

Deqiang Wang*, Xiansong Zhang, Jian Zhang, Baozhen Li

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.18, No.4, pp. 1067-1081, 2022, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.019888 - 06 April 2022

Abstract Carbon dioxide geological sequestration is an effective method to reduce the content of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere of our planet. This process can also be used to improve the production of oil reservoirs by mixing carbon dioxide and crude oil. In the present study, a differential separation experiment (DL) based on actual crude oil components is used to simulate such a process. The results show that after mixing, the viscosity and density of reservoir fluid decrease and the volume coefficient increase, indicating that the pre buried gas induces fluid expansion and an improvement of More >

Reducing the Environmental Impact of Construction by Using Renewable Materials

    Mike Lawrence

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.3, No.3, pp. 163-174, 2015, DOI:10.7569/JRM.2015.634105

Abstract The relative importance of embodied energy and operational energy on the environmental impact of construction are examined in this article. It highlights the fact that the targets set by the Kyoto Protocol are primarily being met by the reduction of in-use energy, and that the implications of that are that the energy embodied in buildings will increase in signifi cance from its current 17% level to 50% by 2050. The article describes how the use of bio-based renewable materials can make a signifi cant contribution to reducing not only the embodied energy of buildings by More >

Carbon concentration in structures of Arctostaphylos pungens HBK: An alternative CO2 sink in forests

    Pompa-García M1, E Jurado2

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.84, No.2, pp. 385-389, 2015, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2015.84.385

Abstract Arctostaphylos pungens HBK is a dominant species with increasing abundance and distribution in chaparral ecosystems as a result of range management and, possibly, changes in climate. The value of this species for carbon (C) sequestration is unknown, and the standard 50% C out of total tree biomass is used as an approximate value. In this study, we aim to determine the C concentration of the primary components of A. pungens. The total C expressed as a percentage of biomass was determined with a Solids TOC Analyzer. We found the C concentration to vary among components. Leaves exhibited the More >
