    Amira Hamed Abo-Elghit1,*, Taher Hamza1, Aya Al-Zoghby2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.72, No.1, pp. 1967-1994, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.025353

Abstract Nowadays, we can use the multi-task learning approach to train a machine-learning algorithm to learn multiple related tasks instead of training it to solve a single task. In this work, we propose an algorithm for estimating textual similarity scores and then use these scores in multiple tasks such as text ranking, essay grading, and question answering systems. We used several vectorization schemes to represent the Arabic texts in the SemEval2017-task3-subtask-D dataset. The used schemes include lexical-based similarity features, frequency-based features, and pre-trained model-based features. Also, we used contextual-based embedding models such as Arabic Bidirectional Encoder… More >

Identification and Classification of Multiple Power Quality Disturbances Using a Parallel Algorithm and Decision Rules

Nagendra Kumar Swarnkar1, Om Prakash Mahela2, Baseem Khan3,*, Mahendra Lalwani1

    Energy Engineering, Vol.119, No.2, pp. 473-497, 2022, DOI:10.32604/ee.2022.017703

Abstract A multiple power quality (MPQ) disturbance has two or more power quality (PQ) disturbances superimposed on a voltage signal. A compact and robust technique is required to identify and classify the MPQ disturbances. This manuscript investigated a hybrid algorithm which is designed using parallel processing of voltage with multiple power quality (MPQ) disturbance using stockwell transform (ST) and hilbert transform (HT). This will reduce the computational time to identify the MPQ disturbances, which makes the algorithm fast. A MPQ identification index (IPI) is computed using statistical features extracted from the voltage signal using the ST… More >

    Radwan Abu-Gdairi1, Shatha Hasan2, Shrideh Al-Omari3,*, Mohammad Al-Smadi2,4, Shaher Momani4,5

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.130, No.1, pp. 299-313, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.017010

Abstract In this paper, an efficient multi-step scheme is presented based on reproducing kernel Hilbert space (RKHS) theory for solving ordinary stiff differential systems. The solution methodology depends on reproducing kernel functions to obtain analytic solutions in a uniform form for a rapidly convergent series in the posed Sobolev space. Using the Gram-Schmidt orthogonality process, complete orthogonal essential functions are obtained in a compact field to encompass Fourier series expansion with the help of kernel properties reproduction. Consequently, by applying the standard RKHS method to each subinterval, approximate solutions that converge uniformly to the exact solutions More >

    Relation-Aware Entity Matching Using Sentence-BERT

    Huchen Zhou1, Wenfeng Huang1, Mohan Li1,*, Yulin Lai2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.71, No.1, pp. 1581-1595, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.020695

Abstract A key aspect of Knowledge fusion is Entity Matching. The objective of this study was to investigate how to identify heterogeneous expressions of the same real-world entity. In recent years, some representative works have used deep learning methods for entity matching, and these methods have achieved good results. However, the common limitation of these methods is that they assume that different attribute columns of the same entity are independent, and inputting the model in the form of paired entity records will cause repeated calculations. In fact, there are often potential relations between different attribute columns… More >

BERT for Conversational Question Answering Systems Using Semantic Similarity Estimation

    Abdulaziz Al-Besher1, Kailash Kumar1, M. Sangeetha2,*, Tinashe Butsa3

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.70, No.3, pp. 4763-4780, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.021033

Abstract Most of the questions from users lack the context needed to thoroughly understand the problem at hand, thus making the questions impossible to answer. Semantic Similarity Estimation is based on relating user’s questions to the context from previous Conversational Search Systems (CSS) to provide answers without requesting the user's context. It imposes constraints on the time needed to produce an answer for the user. The proposed model enables the use of contextual data associated with previous Conversational Searches (CS). While receiving a question in a new conversational search, the model determines the question that refers More >
