ENTROPY GENERATION AND TEMPERATURE GRADIENT HEAT SOURCE EFFECTS ON MHD COUETTE FLOW WITH PERMEABLE BASE IN THE PRESENCE OF VISCOUS AND JOULES DISSIPATION

K.S. Balamurugana,*, N. Udaya Bhaskara Varmab, J.L. Ramaprasadc

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.15, pp. 1-7, 2020, DOI:10.5098/hmt.15.8

Abstract In this paper the entropy generation and temperature gradient heat source effects on MHD couette flow with permeable base in the presence of thermal radiation, viscous and joule's dissipation is studied. An exact solution of governing equations has been attained in closed form. The influences of several parameters on the velocity and temperature profiles and entropy generation are analyzed through graphs. Bejan number for different values have been calculated and displayed pictorially. The skin friction coefficient and Nusselt number at channel walls are derived and discussed their behaviour through tables. The entropy generation increases with More >

ENTROPY GENERATION DUE TO NATURAL CONVECTION WITH NON -UNIFORM HEATING OF POROUS QUADRANTAL ENCLOSURE-A NUMERICAL STUDY

Shantanu Dutta* , Arup Kumar Biswas

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.10, pp. 1-12, 2018, DOI:10.5098/hmt.10.8

Abstract Industrial processes optimization for higher energy efficiency may be effectively carried out based on the thermodynamic approach of entropy generation minimization (EGM). This approach provides the key insights on how the available energy (exergy) is being destroyed during the process and the ways to minimize its destruction. In this study, EGM approach is implemented for the analysis of optimal thermal mixing and temperature uniformity due to natural convection in quadrantal cavity filled with porous medium for the material processing applications or for cooling of electrical equipments. Effect of the permeability of the porous medium and… More >

THERMODYNAMIC ANALYSIS FOR THE MHD FLOW OF TWO IMMISCIBLE MICROPOLAR FLUIDS BETWEEN TWO PARALLEL PLATES

    J. Srinivas*, J. V. Ramana Murthy

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.6, pp. 1-11, 2015, DOI:10.5098/hmt.6.4

Abstract The paper aims the heat transfer analysis for the flow of two immiscible micropolar fluids inside a horizontal channel, by the first and second laws of thermodynamics under the action of an imposed transverse magnetic field. The plates of the channel are maintained at constant temperatures higher than that of the fluid. The flow region consists of two zones, the flow of the heavier fluid taking place in the lower zone. The condition of hyper-stick is taken on the plates and continuity of velocity, micro-rotation, temperature, heat flux, shear stress and couple stress are imposed More >
