Abstract Phosphate tailings are usually used as backfill material in order to recycle tailings resources. This study considers the effect of the mix proportions of clinker-free binders on the fluidity, compressive strength and other key performances of cementitious backfill materials based on phosphate tailings. In particular, three solid wastes, phosphogypsum (PG), semi-aqueous phosphogypsum (HPG) and calcium carbide slag (CS), were selected to activate wet ground granulated blast furnace slag (WGGBS) and three different phosphate tailings backfill materials were prepared. Fluidity, rheology, settling ratio, compressive strength, water resistance and ion leaching behavior of backfill materials were determined.… More > Graphic Abstract

Fulin Wang*, Xinyang Geng, Zhengping Yuan, Shijiao Yang*

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.11, No.3, pp. 1469-1484, 2023, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2022.024994 - 31 October 2022

Abstract The use of some environmental functional minerals as backfill-modified materials may improve the leaching resistance of cemented uranium tailings backfill created from alkali-activated slag (CUTB), but these materials may participate in the hydration reaction of the cementitious materials, which could have a certain impact on the pore structure of the CUTB, thus affecting its mechanical properties and leaching resistance. In this paper, natural zeolite is selected as the backfill-modified material, and it is added to alkali-activated slag paste (AASP) and CUTB in cementitious material proportions of 4%, 8%, 12%, and 16% to prepare AASP mixtures… More >

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.11, No.3, pp. 1513-1529, 2023, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2023.026008 - 31 October 2022

Abstract The green disposal of tailings solid waste is a problem to be solved in mine production. Cemented tailings filling stoping method can realize the dual goals of solid waste resource utilization and mined-out area reduction. However, the volume of the mined-out area of the open-pit method is larger than the filling capacity, resulting in the complex stratification of the underground backfill, and the strength of the backfill cannot meet the requirements. In this paper, according to the delamination situation, the specimens of horizontal and inclination angle layered cemented tailings backfill (LCTB) is made for a… More >

Abstract As a kind of green concrete, the mechanical properties and durability of cemented gangue backfill material (CGBM) will be affected if they are in acid mine water with sulfate ions in the long term. To improve the performance of CGBM in acid mine water with sulfate ions, CGBM specimens with different doses of barium hydroxide were immersed in sulfuric acid solutions of different concentrations for 270 days. The changes of mass, ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV) and compressive strength of the specimens at different ages were analyzed. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) were… More > Graphic Abstract

    Jiamao Li1,2,*, Chuimin Zhang1, Lin Li1, Chuangang Fan1,*, Zhaofang He3, Yuandi Qian3

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.10, No.12, pp. 3439-3458, 2022, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2022.021214 - 14 July 2022

Abstract The purpose of this paper was to explore the possibility of using low-alkalinity cementitious materials as binders, in which ground blast furnace slag and fly ash acted as a partial replacement of ordinary Portland cement, and CaSO4, Na2SO4, and CaO were used as a sulfate activator and alkali-activated additives, to solidify gold mine tailings for preparation of a green, inexpensive cemented paste backfill (CPB). For this target, the effects of cement/ tailings ratio, superplasticizer dosage, solid content, tailings fineness on the mechanical properties of the CPB were investigated. Additionally, the hydration mechanism of the CPB was… More >

Abstract To improve the economic and social benefits of mining and backfill, it is necessary to find the backfill materials suitable for mineral mining, improve the various properties of the filling materials, and develop low cost, high performance new filling materials. Portland cement is neither environmentally friendly nor economical. Currently, we have begun to study and apply some industrial waste, such as slag, fly ash, and other solid wastes, with certain activities as the primary component of cementing material that will not only meet the technical requirements of filling, but also comprehensively utilize industrial waste and… More >

    Bo Zhang1,2, Keqing Li1,2, Siqi Zhang1,2, Yafei Hu1,2, Bin Han1,2,*

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.10, No.12, pp. 3539-3558, 2022, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2022.021845 - 14 July 2022

Abstract Cemented paste backfill (CPB) is a sustainable mining technology that is widely used in mines and helps to improve the mine environment. To investigate the relationship between aggregate grading and different affecting factors and the uniaxial compressive strength (UCS) of the cemented paste backfill (CPB), Talbol gradation theory and neural networks is used to evaluate aggregate gradation to determine the optimum aggregate ratio. The mixed aggregate ratio with the least amount of cement (waste stone content river sand content = 7:3) is obtained by using Talbol grading theory and pile compactness function and combined with… More > Graphic Abstract

    Ningbo Jing1, Mingqiao Li1, Lang Liu2,*, Yutong Shen1, Peijiao Yang1, Xuebin Qin1

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.131, No.1, pp. 465-476, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.018965 - 24 January 2022

Abstract During mine filling, the caking in the pipeline and the waste rock in the filling slurry may cause serious safety accidents such as pipe blocking or explosion. Therefore, the visualization of the inner mine filling of the solid–liquid two-phase flow in the pipeline is important. This paper proposes a method based on capacitance tomography for the visualization of the solid–liquid distribution on the section of a filling pipe. A feedback network is used for electrical capacitance tomography reconstruction. This reconstruction method uses radial basis function neural network fitting to determine the relationship between the capacitance… More >

    Junmeng Li1, Yanli Huang1, Wenyue Qi1, Guoqiang Kong1, Tianqi Song1

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.115, No.1, pp. 85-103, 2018, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2018.115.085

Abstract In fully mechanized solid backfilling mining (FMSBM), the loose gangues backfill body (LGBB) that filled into the goaf becomes the main body of bearing the overburden load. The deformation resistance of LGBB is critical for controlling overburden movement and surface subsidence. During the process of load bearing, LGBB will experience grain crushing, which has a significant effect on its deformation resistance. Gangues block will be accompanied with obvious acoustic emissions (AE) features in process of slipping, flipping and damaging. Under confined compression test, monitoring the AE parameters of LGBB can reveal the impact mechanism of… More >
