Abstract Background: Receptor tyrosine kinase-like orphan receptor 2 (ROR2) has a vital role in osteogenesis. However, the mechanism underlying the regulation of ROR2 in osteogenic differentiation is still poorly comprehended. A previous study by our research group showed that a novel compound heterozygous ROR2 variation accounted for the autosomal recessive Robinow syndrome (ARRS). This study attempted to explore the impact of the ROR2: c.904C>T variant specifically on the osteogenic differentiation of BMSCs. Methods: Coimmunoprecipitation (CoIP)-western blotting was carried out to identify the interaction between ROR2 and Wnt5a. Double-immunofluorescence staining was used for determining the expressions and co-localization… More > Graphic Abstract

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.72, No.3, pp. 5149-5164, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.028326 - 21 April 2022

Abstract Currently, relational database management systems (RDBMSs) face different challenges in application development due to the massive growth of unstructured and semi-structured data. This introduced new DBMS categories, known as not only structured query language (NoSQL) DBMSs, which do not adhere to the relational model. The migration from relational databases to NoSQL databases is challenging due to the data complexity. This study aims to enhance the storage performance of RDBMSs in handling a variety of data. The paper presents two approaches. The first approach proposes a convenient representation of unstructured data storage. Several extensive experiments were More >

Abstract Osteoporosis is a frequently occurring bone remodeling disorder worldwide with one characteristic being decreasing bone mineral density and a predisposition to bone fracture, which diminishes patients’ quality of life. Several studies showed that imbalance between the osteogenesis and adipogenesis of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) took part in the development of osteoporosis. In previous study, we found MIR22HG regulated the osteogenesis of human BMSCs positively. In this study, we found that MIR22HG was decreased during the adipogenesis of human BMSCs and exerted negative effects on adipogenesis with the involvement of Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway both in More >

    BIOCELL, Vol.46, No.6, pp. 1465-1472, 2022, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2022.018967 - 07 February 2022

Abstract The present study was designed to investigate the role of estrogen receptor α (ERα) in biaxial tensile strain (BTS) regulated osteogenic differentiation of rat bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (rBMSCs). rBMSCs were derived from rats and overexpressed ERα. The rBMSCs were subjected to BTS at 1 Hz with a strain of 2% for 4 h per day, 3 days, with or without ERα inhibitor ICI 182,780 (ICI). Then, bone mineralization was performed by Alizarin Red Staining. The markers of osteogenic differentiation and downstream Wnt3a/β-catenin signaling were detected by western blotting. Results showed that BTS enhanced More >

Synergy of single-cell sequencing analyses and in vivo lineage-tracing approaches: A new opportunity for stem cell biology

YUKI MATSUSHITA, WANIDA ONO, NORIAKI ONO*

    BIOCELL, Vol.46, No.5, pp. 1157-1162, 2022, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2022.018960 - 06 January 2022

Abstract Single-cell sequencing technologies have rapidly progressed in recent years, and been applied to characterize stem cells in a number of organs. Somatic (postnatal) stem cells are generally identified using combinations of cell surface markers and transcription factors. However, it has been challenging to define micro-heterogeneity within “stem cell” populations, each of which stands at a different level of differentiation. As stem cells become defined at a single-cell level, their differentiation path becomes clearly defined. Here, this viewpoint discusses the potential synergy of single-cell sequencing analyses with in vivo lineage-tracing approaches, with an emphasis on practical considerations More >

A New Database Intrusion Detection Approach Based on Hybrid Meta-Heuristics

    Youseef Alotaibi*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.66, No.2, pp. 1879-1895, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2020.013739 - 26 November 2020

Abstract A new secured database management system architecture using intrusion detection systems (IDS) is proposed in this paper for organizations with no previous role mapping for users. A simple representation of Structured Query Language queries is proposed to easily permit the use of the worked clustering algorithm. A new clustering algorithm that uses a tube search with adaptive memory is applied to database log files to create users’ profiles. Then, queries issued for each user are checked against the related user profile using a classifier to determine whether or not each query is malicious. The IDS… More >

RBMS3 Inhibits the Proliferation and Metastasis of Breast Cancer Cells

Yuan Yang*, Lingli Quan, Ye Ling*

    Oncology Research, Vol.26, No.1, pp. 9-15, 2018, DOI:10.3727/096504017X14871200709504

Abstract RBMS3, a gene encoding a glycine-rich RNA-binding protein, belongs to the family of c-Myc gene singlestrand binding proteins (MSSP). Recently, several reports have provided evidence that RBMS3 was deregulated in a diverse range of solid tumors and played a critical role in tumor progression. However, it remains unclear whether RBMS3 inhibits the progression of human breast cancer. Thus, the aim of this study was to investigate the role of RBMS3 in breast cancer and explore the underlying mechanism in breast cancer progression. Our results showed, for the first time, that the expression of RBMS3 at… More >

A Lightweight Approach to Access to Wireless Network without Operating System Support

Yonghua Xionga,b,d, Jinhua Shea,b,c, Keyuan Jiangd

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.24, No.2, pp. 275-284, 2018, DOI:10.1080/10798587.2017.1280262

Abstract Wireless network is crucial for the Mobile Transparent Computing (MTC), in which a mobile device without any Operating System (OS) support needs to load the demanded OSes and applications through accessing the wireless network connection. In this paper, a lightweight approach based on the Boot Management System (BMS) was proposed to ensure the wireless network connection before booting OS. In BMS, the Virtual File System (VFS) technology was used to drive the wireless network card and establish a stable network connection. A prototype of the BMS was tested on ARM11 hardware platform and the results More >

Uniform Query Framework for Relational and NoSQL Databases

    J.B. Karanjekar1, M.B. Ch,ak2

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.113, No.2, pp. 177-187, 2017, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2017.113.177

Abstract As the data managed by applications has evolved over the years with the arrival of Web 2.0, a large number of new databases have been developed to manage various types of data. While the traditional relational databases continue to exist, NoSQL databases which are document oriented or key-value stores or columnar continue to evolve and are embraced very rapidly across the industry. It is not just the type of data handled by these databases that is different but also the query language they use is also different. This paper talks about a uniform query framework More >
