Abstract Background: 1,2,3,4,6-penta-O-galloyl-beta-D-glucose (PGG) is a natural polyphenolic compound derived from multiple medicinal plants with favorable anticancer activity. Methods: In this study, the mechanisms of PGG against gastric cancer were explored through network pharmacology and molecular docking. First, the targets of PGG were searched in the Herbal Ingredients’ Targets (HIT), Similarity Ensemble Approach (SEA), and Super-PRED databases. The potential targets related to gastric cancer were predicted from the Human Gene Database (GeneCards) and DisGeNET databases. The intersecting targets of PGG and gastric cancer were obtained by Venn diagram and then subjected to protein-protein interaction analysis to screen… More >

Hsa_circ_0002137 stabled by LIN28B promotes osteosarcoma cell growth through the hsa-miR-1246/BCL2 axis

Abstract Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are a novel class of non-coding RNA that have recently shown to have huge capabilities in the regulation of gene expression at the posttranscriptional level. Growing evidence has indicated that circRNAs could serve as competing endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs) to sponge microRNAs (miRNAs) and suppress functions of targeted miRNAs. Osteosarcoma (OS) is the most common malignant primary bone cancer. Hsa_circ_0002137 is upregulated in OS. However, the role of hsa_circ_0002137 in OS remains unclear. Using miRNA pull-down assay, we showed that cir_0002137 sponged hsa-miR-1246, and BCL2 apoptosis regulator (BCL2) mRNA was a potential target More >

An active RUNX1-ID1/ID3 axis governs differentiation and chemoresistance of cancer stem cell population in epithelial ovarian cancer cells

    AJIT C. DHADVE1,2, PRITHA RAY1,2

    BIOCELL, Vol.46, No.1, pp. 75-86, 2022, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2022.016346 - 28 September 2021

Abstract Progression, relapse, and therapy resistance are the most challenging features of cancer therapy that have been postulated to be driven by Cancer Stem Cell (CSC) population. This enigmatic subpopulation of cancer cells has therefore emerged as promising therapeutic candidate. We earlier reported enrichment of CSC-like side population (SP) with increasing resistance towards Cisplatin and Paclitaxel either alone or in combination in epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) cells. This SP population is a small proportion of the total population of cancer cells characterised with high expression of drug transporters, a unique feature of stem cells and thereby… More >

miR-202 Suppresses Hepatocellular Carcinoma Progression via Downregulating BCL2 Expression

    Oncology Research, Vol.28, No.4, pp. 399-408, 2020, DOI:10.3727/096504020X15864296270581

Abstract miRNAs play an important role in progression of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). In this work, we assessed the function of miR-202 in human HCC and identified BCL2 as its target. We found miR-202 expression was found significantly downregulated, while BCL2 expression was markedly upregulated in HCC tissues and cell lines (HepG2, Hep3B, and HCCLM3). Both miR-202 and BCL2 were closely correlated with major vascular invasion and advanced TNM stage as well as overall survival of HCC patients. Overexpression of miR-202 significantly inhibited cell proliferation, induced apoptosis and cell cycle arrest at the G0/G1 phase, and prevented More >

miR-126-5p Restoration Promotes Cell Apoptosis in Cervical Cancer by Targeting Bcl2l2

    Oncology Research, Vol.25, No.4, pp. 463-470, 2017, DOI:10.3727/096504016X14685034103879

Abstract Cervical cancer is one of the most common cancers in females, with a high incidence and mortality around the world. However, the pathogenesis in cervical cancer is not completely known. In the present study, we investigated the role of miR-126-5p and Bcl2l2 in cervical cancer cells. First, miR-126-5p expression was aberrantly downregulated in human cervical cancer tumor tissues in comparison with normal tissues, as evaluated by RT-PCR. Consistently, the levels of miR-126-5p were also significantly reduced in cervical cancer cell lines when compared to normal cervical epithelial cells. Flow cytometric analysis showed that the rate… More >

Abstract “Double” or “triple” hit lymphomas (D/THL) with recurrent translocations involving MYC/8q24 and BCL2/18q21 and/or BCL6/3q27 are characterized by a poor prognosis, but their identification is hampered by the clinicopathologic overlap with other disease categories. Cases with circulating blastic-appearing cells may initially cause concern for lymphoblastic leukemia a diagnostic dilemma, which has not been well studied. There is only limited literature regarding the flow cytometric (FC) D/THL phenotype and its clinical correlates. The FC features of 20 D/THL (11 BCL2+/MYC+, 5 BCL6+/MYC+, 4 BCL2+/BCL6+/MYC+) were evaluated, compared to 20 B-lymphoblastic leukemias (B-LBL), and correlated with overall survival. Most (89%,… More >
