B Class Floral Homeotic Genes are Involved in the Petal Identity and Flower Meristem Determinations in Chrysanthemum morifolium

Jiayou Liu, Lian Ding, Xue Zhang, Song Li, Yunxiao Guan, Diwen Jia, Aiping Song, Jiafu Jiang, Fadi Chen*

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.92, No.2, pp. 311-331, 2023, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2022.023896 - 12 October 2022

Abstract Chrysanthemum morifolium, an ornamental crop with diverse forms of inflorescence, is a good model for studying flower development in Asteraceae. However, the genetic background is complex and the mechanisms of regulating flower development are still unclear. Here, we identified two natural mutant lines of chrysanthemum and named them M1 and M2 according to the severity of the phenotype. Both lines showed defects in petal identity, and the petals of the M1 line had a mild phenotype: partially loss of petal identity and conversion of petals into green, leaf-like organs. The M2 line had severe phenotypes: in… More >

Blood Group Classification System Based on Image Processing Techniques

    S. A. Shaban*, D. L. Elsheweikh

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.31, No.2, pp. 817-834, 2022, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2022.019500 - 22 September 2021

Abstract The present paper proposes a novel system that automatically classifies the eight different blood groups according to the ABO and Rh blood group systems. The proposed system is developed by applying MATLAB’s image processing techniques on the blood sample images. These images are acquired from the laboratory using the slide test. It utilizes a mean filter for removing noise from blood sample images. In addition, the Contrast Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization (CLAHE) is used for enhancing the image characteristics analysis. The proposed system also utilizes the automated threshold strategy (Otsu’s approach) for obtaining the blood… More >

miR-148b Functions as a Tumor Suppressor by Targeting Endoplasmic Reticulum Metallo Protease 1 in Human Endometrial Cancer Cells

Jinfeng Qu*, Lei Zhang, Lanyu Li*, Yujie Su*

    Oncology Research, Vol.27, No.1, pp. 81-88, 2019, DOI:10.3727/096504018X15202988139874

Abstract This study investigated the tumor-suppressive role of miR-148b in regulating endoplasmic reticulum metalloprotease 1 (ERMP1) expression and the oxidative stress response in endometrial cancer cells. Human endometrial cancer RL95-2 cells were used and transfected with miR-148b mimic, miR-148b inhibitor, or their scrambled negative control. Thereafter, the transfection efficiency was determined by RT-qPCR, and cell proliferation was assessed by MTT assay. The dual-luciferase reporter assay, Western blot, and RT-qPCR were conducted to determine the target gene of miR-148b. ERMP1 is a putative target of miR-148b, and thereby the overexpression and downregulation of ERMP1 on the proliferation… More >

MicroRNA-520b Functions as a Tumor Suppressor in Colorectal Cancer by Inhibiting Defective in Cullin Neddylation 1 Domain Containing 1 (DCUN1D1)

Jing Xiao*, Guang Li, Jingyu Zhou, Shalong Wang, Dongcai Liu, Guoshun Shu, Jianping Zhou, Feng Ren

    Oncology Research, Vol.26, No.4, pp. 593-604, 2018, DOI:10.3727/096504017X14920318811712

Abstract MicroRNAs (miRs), a class of small noncoding RNAs, are important regulators for gene expression through directly binding to the 3'-untranslated region (3'-UTR) of their target mRNA. Recently, downregulation of miR-520b has been observed in several common human cancers. However, the exact role of miR-520b in colorectal cancer (CRC) has not previously been studied. In this study, our data showed that miR-520b was significantly downregulated in CRC and cell lines when compared with adjacent normal tissues and a normal intestinal epithelial cell line. Low expression of miR-520b was notably associated with the malignant progress and a… More >
