    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.75, No.3, pp. 5355-5377, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.036779

Abstract As the COVID-19 pandemic swept the globe, social media platforms became an essential source of information and communication for many. International students, particularly, turned to Twitter to express their struggles and hardships during this difficult time. To better understand the sentiments and experiences of these international students, we developed the Situational Aspect-Based Annotation and Classification (SABAC) text mining framework. This framework uses a three-layer approach, combining baseline Deep Learning (DL) models with Machine Learning (ML) models as meta-classifiers to accurately predict the sentiments and aspects expressed in tweets from our collected Student-COVID-19 dataset. Using the proposed aspect2class annotation algorithm, we… More >

The Nest of Torquigener Albomaculosus: Fluid-Dynamic Aspects and Potential for Bio-Inspired Engineering

    Zhimin Zhao1,2, Shangbin Wang1, Yuanhao Tie3, Ning Feng1,2,*

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.7, pp. 1837-1850, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.026814

Abstract Torquigener albomaculosus, also known as the white-spotted pufferfish, is known for creating circular nests in the underwater sand as part of the mating ritual. The nests are built by the males to attract females through the nest’s impressive design and related ability to gather fine sand particles. As the fluid-dynamic processes associated with these unique nests are still almost completely unknown, in the present study, an analysis has been conducted to investigate how the geometric parameters related to the nest design influence the fluid velocity in its center. For this reason, a geometric model of the nest consisting of 24… More > Graphic Abstract

Aspect-Based Sentiment Analysis for Social Multimedia: A Hybrid Computational Framework

    Muhammad Rizwan Rashid Rana1,*, Saif Ur Rehman1, Asif Nawaz1, Tariq Ali1, Azhar Imran2, Abdulkareem Alzahrani3, Abdullah Almuhaimeed4,*

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.46, No.2, pp. 2415-2428, 2023, DOI:10.32604/csse.2023.035149

Abstract People utilize microblogs and other social media platforms to express their thoughts and feelings regarding current events, public products and the latest affairs. People share their thoughts and feelings about various topics, including products, news, blogs, etc. In user reviews and tweets, sentiment analysis is used to discover opinions and feelings. Sentiment polarity is a term used to describe how sentiment is represented. Positive, neutral and negative are all examples of it. This area is still in its infancy and needs several critical upgrades. Slang and hidden emotions can detract from the accuracy of traditional techniques. Existing methods only evaluate… More >

Topological Aspects of Dendrimers via Connection-Based Descriptors

    Muhammad Javaid1, Ahmed Alamer2, Aqsa Sattar1,*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.135, No.2, pp. 1649-1667, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.022832

Abstract Topological indices (TIs) have been practiced for distinct wide-ranging physicochemical applications, especially used to characterize and model the chemical structures of various molecular compounds such as dendrimers, nanotubes and neural networks with respect to their certain properties such as solubility, chemical stability and low cytotoxicity. Dendrimers are prolonged artificially synthesized or amalgamated natural macromolecules with a sequential layer of branches enclosing a central core. A present-day trend in mathematical and computational chemistry is the characterization of molecular structure by applying topological approaches, including numerical graph invariants. Among topological descriptors, Zagreb connection indices (ZCIs) have much importance. This manuscript involves the… More >

Material Properties and Molecular Aspects of Highly Acetylated Starch-Based Films

    Kristine Koch1,*, Daniel Johansson2, Kalle Johansson3, Karin Svegmark4

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.2, No.2, pp. 134-144, 2014, DOI:10.7569/JRM.2014.634110

Abstract Properties of starch triacetate fi lms from different botanical origins were evaluated. Tensile and barrier properties, glass transition temperatures and moisture uptake were measured, and the molecular structure was characterised. High-amylose starches were good fi lm formers, normal potato starch formed continuous but brittle fi lms and potato amylopectin formed very brittle fi lms even after plasticisation. Barley amylopectin did not form continuous fi lms. Different plasticisers were studied and diacetin was shown to perform better than the standard plasticiser triacetin. All fi lms were water resistant, and the best fi lms gave water vapour barriers in the range of… More >

A Deep Learning Model for EEG-Based Lie Detection Test Using Spatial and Temporal Aspects

Abeer Abdulaziz AlArfaj, Hanan Ahmed Hosni Mahmoud*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.73, No.3, pp. 5655-5669, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.031135

Abstract Lie detection test is highly significant task due to its impact on criminology and society. Computerized lie detection test model using electroencephalogram (EEG) signals is studied in literature. In this paper we studied deep learning framework in lie detection test paradigm. First, we apply a preprocessing technique to utilize only a small fragment of the EEG image instead of the whole image. Our model describes a temporal feature map of the EEG signals measured during the lie detection test. A deep learning attention model (V-TAM) extracts the temporal map vector during the learning process. This technique reduces computational time and… More >

Multi Layered Rule-Based Technique for Explicit Aspect Extraction from Online Reviews

    Mubashar Hussain1, Toqir A. Rana2,3, Aksam Iftikhar4, M. Usman Ashraf5,*, Muhammad Waseem Iqbal6, Ahmed Alshaflut7, Abdullah Alourani8

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.73, No.3, pp. 4641-4656, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.024759

Abstract In the field of sentiment analysis, extracting aspects or opinion targets from user reviews about a product is a key task. Extracting the polarity of an opinion is much more useful if we also know the targeted Aspect or Feature. Rule based approaches, like dependency-based rules, are quite popular and effective for this purpose. However, they are heavily dependent on the authenticity of the employed parts-of-speech (POS) tagger and dependency parser. Another popular rule based approach is to use sequential rules, wherein the rules formulated by learning from the user’s behavior. However, in general, the sequential rule-based approaches have poor… More >

    Afonso R. G. de Azevedo1,*, Marcelo Nascimento2, Dirlane do Carmo3, Markssuel T. Marvila4, Gustavo de C. Xavier1, Sergio Neves Monteiro4

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.10, No.9, pp. 2409-2429, 2022, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2022.020503

Abstract The use of natural lignocellulosic fibers (NLFs) as a reinforcement mechanism for cementitious composites, such as mortar, has been investigated in the last decades. However, their application has often been restricted to technological evaluation research. A NLF with great potential the curaua, which after treatment with NaOH solution, proved to be technologically feasible for mortars reinforcement based on cement and lime. The objective of this research was the comparative evaluation between a traditional mortar, based on cement and lime, with 1:1:6:0.8 ratio of cement: lime: sand: water, and a modified mortar with addition of 2 wt.% treated curaua fiber in… More >
