    Abstract Traditional asphalt rejuvenators, like aromatic oil (AO), are known to be effective in improving the low-temperature properties and fatigue performances of aged SBS (styrene-butadiene-styrene) modified asphalt (SBSMA) binders and mixtures. However, these rejuvenators inevitably compromise their high-temperature properties and deformation resistances because they dilute asphalt binder but do not fix the damaged structures of aged SBS.     Abstract In this work, we investigated aroma volatiles emanated by dry roots, stems, leaves, flowers, and fruits of Cardaria draba (L.) Desv. growing wild in Tunisia and its aerial part essential oils (EOs) composition. A total of 37 volatile organic compounds (96.7%–98.9%) were identified; 4 esters, 4 alcohols, 7 hydrocarbons, 12 aldehydes, 5 ketones, 1 lactone, 1 organosulfur compound, 2 organonitrogen compounds, and 1 acid. The hydrocarbons form the main group, representing 49.5%–84.6% of the total detected volatiles.     Abstract A new method of pretreatment of corn straw with Phanerochaete chrysosporium combined with pyrolysis was proposed to improve the quality of bio-oil. The characterization results demonstrated that microbial pretreatment was an effective method to decrease the lignin, which can achieve a maximum removal rate of 44.19%. Due to the destruction of biomass structure, the content of alkali metal and alkaline earth metal is reduced. Meanwhile, the depolymerized biomass structure created better pyrolysis conditions to promote the pyrolysis efficiency, increase the average decomposition rate of pyrolysis and reduce the residue.     Abstract The formation process of aromatic hydrocarbon tar during the pyrolysis process of biomass components of cellulose and lignin was carried out by quantum chemical calculation based on density functional theory method B3LYP/6-31G++(d, p). 5-Hydroxymethylfurfural was chosen as the model compound of cellulose and hemicellulose, and syringaldehyde was chosen as the model compound of lignin.     Abstract Herbaceous peony (Paeonia lactiflora Pall.) is an important ornamental plant worldwide. In its natural state, P. lactiflora often manifests traits like rapidly elongating internodal growth, loose plant types, and soft inflorescence stems. However, very little has been known about the measures for controlling these traits. This study investigated the effect of applying paclobutrazol (PBZ) on the plant growth and flower quality in P. lactiflora.     Abstract Conventional curing study of epoxy resin of (2E, 6E)-bis (4-hydroxybenzylidene)-4-methyl cyclohexanone (EMBHBC) was conducted at 140 0 /150 0 C by using 4,4’-diaminodiphenylmethane (DDM),4,4’-diaminodiphenylsulphone (DDS),4-4’-diaminodiphenyl ether (DDE), p-phenylenediamine (PDA), 1,2,3,6-tetrahydrophthalic anhydride(THPA), maleic anhydride (MAH) and pyromellitic dianhydride (PMDA). The gel time for DDS, THPA and DDM hardeners are found considerably longer than those of DDE, PDA, MAH and PMDA systems indicated different reactivity towards curing of EMBHBC. Sol–gel analysis of cured resins was carried out in DMF at room temperature.
