Abstract Objective: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a progressive disorder characterized by intricate structural and functional alterations in the kidneys, attributable to diverse causative factors. Notably, the therapeutic promise of miR-145-5p in addressing renal pathologies has been discerned. This investigation seeks to elucidate the functional role of miR-145-5p in injured kidneys by subjecting human glomerular mesangial cells (HGMCs) to stimulation with Angiotensin II (AngII). Materials and Methods: Cellular viability and the levels of inflammatory mediators were evaluated utilizing Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8), quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR), and western blot methodologies, both in the presence of… More >

Abstract The present study demonstrates that the expression of c-Jun and c-Fos are elevated in gingival fibroblast cells treated with angiotensin II and cyclosporine. The healthy human gingival tissues were collected and gingival fibroblasts were isolated and cultured. We used RT-PCR and Western blot analysis to identify the expression of c-Jun and c-Fos in cyclosporine and angiotensin II treated human gingival fibroblast cells. We found that angiotensin II in combination with cyclosporine induces c-Jun and c-Fos expressions significantly; however, the angiotensin II antagonist losartan inhibits the expression of c-Jun and c-Fos (p < 0.01). Review : Biochemical-molecular markers in unilateral ureteral obstruction

    BIOCELL, Vol.31, No.1, pp. 1-12, 2007, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2007.31.001

Abstract Congenital obstructive nephropathy is the primary cause of end-stage renal disease in children. Rapid diagnosis and initiation of the treatment are vital to preserve function and/or to slow down renal injury. Obstructive uropathy effects -decline in the plasmatic renal flow and glomerular filtration rate, interstitial infiltrate of leukocytes, significant decrease of the urine concentration, loss of the capacity to concentrate urine as well as fibrosis and apoptosis- are a consequence of a variety of factors that work in complex ways and are still not fully understood. Mediators as angiotensin II, transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) and… More >

    BIOCELL, Vol.30, No.3, pp. 447-455, 2006, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2006.30.447

Abstract Essential hypertension is considered a multifactorial trait resulting from a combination of environmental and genetic factors. The angiotensin II type 1 receptor mediates the vasoconstrictor and growthpromoting effects of Ang II. The A1166C polymorphism of the AT1 receptor gene may be associated with cardiovascular phenotypes, such as high arterial blood pressure, aortic stiffness, and increased cardiovascular risk. We investigated the association between this A1166C polymorphism and hypertension in hypertense and normotense subjects from San Luis (Argentina) by mismatch PCR-RFLP analysis. Hypertense patients exhibited significant increases in lipid related values and body mass index. The frequency of occurrence… More >

Changes of inducible nitric oxide synthase in aortic cells during the development of hypertension: Effect of angiotensin II

    M. Cruzado, C. Castro, N. Risler, R. Miatello

    BIOCELL, Vol.26, No.1, pp. 61-67, 2002, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2002.26.061

Abstract Nitric oxide (NO) generation by inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) in the vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMC), may play a role in blood vessel tone regulation. Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) induced iNOS activity and subsequent nitrite production by cultured aortic VSMC, from SHR with an established chronic blood pressure elevation (adult SHR) or during the period preceding the development of hypertension (young SHR) and from age-matched normotensive Wistar (W) rats were compared. Angiotensin II (Ang II) effect was also evaluated. Both basal LPS-induced iNOS activity and nitrite accumulation were significantly lower in young SHR VSMC compared… More >
