Characterization and Numerical Simulation of Delamination Propagation Behavior in Carbon Fiber Reinforced Composite Laminates

    Yu Gong1,*, Jianyu Zhang1, Libin Zhao2, Ning Hu2

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.30, No.3, pp. 1-2, 2024, DOI:10.32604/icces.2024.011451

Abstract Advanced carbon fiber reinforced composite materials are increasingly being used in aerospace and other fields. Composite laminate structure is one of the commonly used configurations, but due to weak interlayer performance, interlayer delamination is prone to occur [1]. The occurrence and growth of delamination will seriously affect the overall integrity and safety of composite structures, making it a focus of attention in the design of laminated structures. Accurately characterizing the delamination mechanical properties of composite laminates and simulating delamination propagation behavior is the basis for damage tolerance design and analysis of composite structures with delamination… More >

Analysis of Thermomechanical Delamination Mechanisms in Segmented High-Temperature Protective Coatings and Design Maps for the Durable Coatings

    Biao Li1,*

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.30, No.1, pp. 1-1, 2024, DOI:10.32604/icces.2024.012788

Abstract Protective coatings play a crucial role in preserving high-temperature engineering components from environmental degradation [1-3]. The durability of these coatings is crucial for maintaining the structural integrity of the components. Introducing a segmented microstructure was recognized as an effective strategy for enhancing the strain tolerance of coatings by mitigating the in-plane stiffness of the coatings, thereby alleviating interface stresses and delamination driving forces. While previous studies on delamination mechanisms in high-temperature protective coatings have predominantly focused on either pure mechanical loading or pure thermal loading conditions (i.e., residual stress) due to their ease of implementation,… More >

    Kaixin Xia1, Yu Gong2,*, Xinxin Qi3,4, Libin Zhao3,4,*, Linjuan Wang1

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.30, No.1, pp. 1-1, 2024, DOI:10.32604/icces.2024.011650

Abstract The crack tip of the asymmetric four-point bend end-notched flexure (4AENF) delamination testing under shear loading often exhibits a proportion of mode I component, making it a typical mixed-mode I/II problem. Characterizing the total fracture toughness in 4AENF laminates is crucial for understanding the delamination phenomenon in composites. In this study, 4AENF tests were conducted on carbon fiber-reinforced epoxy asymmetric laminates to evaluate the total interlaminar fracture toughness under shear loading conditions. Additionally, the variation of interlaminar fracture toughness in asymmetric laminates with different fiber orientation angles was considered. Theoretical modelling was performed using an More >

    Hao Xu1, Jing Wang2, Rubin Zhu2, Alfred Strauss3, Maosen Cao4, Zhanjun Wu1,*

    Structural Durability & Health Monitoring, Vol.18, No.6, pp. 785-803, 2024, DOI:10.32604/sdhm.2024.051393 - 20 September 2024

Abstract Delamination is a prevalent type of damage in composite laminate structures. Its accumulation degrades structural performance and threatens the safety and integrity of aircraft. This study presents a method for the quantitative identification of delamination identification in composite materials, leveraging distributed optical fiber sensors and a model updating approach. Initially, a numerical analysis is performed to establish a parameterized finite element model of the composite plate. Then, this model subsequently generates a database of strain responses corresponding to damage of varying sizes and locations. The radial basis function neural network surrogate model is then constructed More >

    Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.22, No.2, pp. 557-581, 2024, DOI:10.32604/fhmt.2024.047814 - 20 May 2024

Abstract The cavity with lid-driven is greatly used in mixing, coating, and drying applications and is a substantial issue in the study of thermal performance rate and fluid field. A numerical approach is presented to study the thermal distribution and passage of fluid in a lid-driven cavity with an upper oscillating surface and an attached baffle. The walls of a cavity at the left and right were maintained at 350 and 293 K, respectively. The upper oscillating surface was equipped with a variable height to baffle to increase the convection of the three kinds of TiO,… More >

Abstract A new era of data access and management has begun with the use of cloud computing in the healthcare industry. Despite the efficiency and scalability that the cloud provides, the security of private patient data is still a major concern. Encryption, network security, and adherence to data protection laws are key to ensuring the confidentiality and integrity of healthcare data in the cloud. The computational overhead of encryption technologies could lead to delays in data access and processing rates. To address these challenges, we introduced the Enhanced Parallel Multi-Key Encryption Algorithm (EPM-KEA), aiming to bolster… More >

    Fatemeh Hassani Khorshidi1, Saeed Kazemi Najafi1, Farhood Najafi2,*, Antonio Pizzi3,*, Dick Sandberg4, Rabi Behrooz1

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.12, No.2, pp. 305-323, 2024, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2023.043953 - 11 March 2024

Abstract The purpose of this research study was to investigate the properties of polyurethane coatings based on lignin nano-particles. For this purpose, the prepared coatings were applied to pine wood surfaces and weathered artificially. Subsequently, color and gloss of the coatings were measured before and after the weathering test. Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) micrographs prepared from the coatings showed that the average size of nano-particles in the polyurethane substrate was approximately 500 nm. Nuclear magnetic resonance (13C-NMR) spectroscopy showed that strong urethane bonds were formed in the nano-lignin-based polyurethane. Differential calorimetric analysis (DSC) test revealed… More > Graphic Abstract

    Xuefei Chen1, Wenhui Tan2, Qiulan Wu1,*, Feng Zhang1, Xiumei Guo1, Zixin Zhu1

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.37, No.3, pp. 3143-3157, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.040903 - 11 September 2023

Abstract In order to improve the accuracy and efficiency of Lentinula edodes logs contamination identification, an improved YOLOv5s contamination identification model for Lentinula edodes logs (YOLOv5s-CGGS) is proposed in this paper. Firstly, a CA (coordinate attention) mechanism is introduced in the feature extraction network of YOLOv5s to improve the identifiability of Lentinula edodes logs contamination and the accuracy of target localization. Then, the CIoU (Complete-IOU) loss function is replaced by an SIoU (SCYLLA-IoU) loss function to improve the model’s convergence speed and inference accuracy. Finally, the GSConv and GhostConv modules are used to improve and optimize More >

Interfacial Delamination in High-Temperature Coatings with Segmented Microstructures

    Biao Li1,*

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.25, No.1, pp. 1-2, 2023, DOI:10.32604/icces.2023.09818

Abstract High-temperature coatings are extensively used in aircraft engines and industrial gas turbines to protect hot-section components from harsh operating environments [1]. Representative high-temperature coatings include thermal barrier coatings and environmental barrier coatings, which are applied to substrates made of superalloy and ceramic matrix composites, respectively. The durability of the coatings is of significant importance for the structural integrity of the components [2-4]. A segmented microstructure was widely used to improve the coatings' durability. A network of through-thickness vertical cracks is introduced into the outer layer of the coatings, which increases the compliance of the coatings… More >
