Chitosan/PVA Films and Silver Nanoparticle Impregnated Nanofibrous Dressings for Evaluation of their Wound Healing Efficacy in Wistar Albino Rat Model

SOBHA KOTA*, RATNAKUMARI ANANTHA, VAYUNANDANA RAO GOVADA, PRADEEP DUMPALA

    Journal of Polymer Materials, Vol.40, No.3-4, pp. 285-303, 2023, DOI:10.32381/JPM.2023.40.3-4.10

Abstract The exoskeleton of marine shrimp contains a natural, biocompatible polymer chitin, which is dumped as a waste. The study proposes the sustainable single-pot-extraction of chitosan from the waste and its use in the fabrication of wound-dressings, and thus leverage its piezoelectric, antioxidant, hypoglycaemic and medicinal properties in wound-healing. The Fourier transform infrared spectrum revealed that marine chitosan contains functional groups with N-O, O-H, and CO stretching. Scanning electron micrographs demonstrated the spherical and mesoporous structures of the extracted chitosan. X-ray diffraction analysis showed a semi-crystalline phase of chitosan particles with a mean size of 28.9… More >

    Rogelio Solorzano-Toala1, Daniel Gonzalez-Mendoza2,*, Benjamin Valdez-Salas3, Vianey MendezTrujillo4, Federico Gutierrez-Miceli1, Ernesto Beltran-Partida3, Olivia Tzintzun-Camacho2

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.8, No.9, pp. 1129-1137, 2020, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2020.09845 - 03 August 2020

Abstract The aim of this study was the synthesis of silver nanoparticle using Annona diversifolia Safford. The silver nanoparticles obtained were analyzed by spectroscopic methods and dynamic light scattering methods. The inhibition of AgNPs was evaluated against Bacillus cereus, Klebsiella pneumoniae and Enterobacter aerogenes. The results showed that AgNPs have high values at 3 keV and particle size between 45 to 58 nm with a homogenous morphology. The AgNPs showed growth inhibition against Klebsiella pneumoniae and Enterobacter aerogenes. Therefore studies are needed to confirm the potential antimicrobial of different AgNP from A. diversifolia in Gram negative and Gram positive bacteria. More >

Mycogenic Silver Nanoparticles From Endophytic Trichoderma atroviride with Antimicrobial Activity

    Ahmed Abdel-Azeem1,*, Amr A. Nada2,3, Anthonia O’Donovan4, Vijay Kumar Thakur5, Amr Elkelish6

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.8, No.2, pp. 171-185, 2020, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2020.08960 - 01 February 2020

Abstract There is an increasing interest in developing nanoparticles with diverse biologic activities. To this end, we prepared 10 to 15 nm silver nanoparticles (AgNP) from native isolates of Trichoderma atroviride. Within this study, endophytic fungi hosted four medicinal plants in Saint Katherine Protectorate, South Sinai, Egypt have been isolated by surface sterilization technique on four isolation media. Ten species, based on their frequency of occurrence, out of twenty recovered taxa were tested for their capability to synthesize extracellular AgNPs. Trichoderma atroviride hosted Chiliadenus montanus was found to be the best candidate for the production of mycogenic AgNPs among… More >
