Abstract Bio-based cyclodextrins (CDs) are a common research object in supramolecular chemistry. The special cavity structure of CDs can form supramolecular self-assemblies such as vesicles and microcrystals through weak interaction with guest molecules. The different forms of supramolecular self-assemblies can be transformed into each other under certain conditions. The regulation of supramolecular self-assembly is not only helpful to understand the self-assembly principle, but also beneficial to its application. In the present study, the self-assembly behavior of epoxy-β-cyclodextrin (EP-β-CD) and mixed anionic and cationic surfactant system (sodium dodecyl sulfate/dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide, SDS/DTAB) in aqueous solution was studied. Morphological… More > Graphic Abstract

β-Cyclodextrin-Based Nitrosoglutathione Improves the Storage Quality of Peach by Regulating the Metabolism of Endogenous Nitric Oxide, Hydrogen Sulfide, and Phenylpropane

    Chen Chen, Shuhua Zhu*

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.92, No.4, pp. 1091-1107, 2023, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2023.026331 - 06 January 2023

Abstract Nitrosoglutathione (GSNO) and β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) exhibit positive roles in regulating fruit quality. However, there are few reports about the effects of GSNO and β-CD on enhancing storability and boosting nitric oxide (NO), hydrogen sulfide (H2S), and phenylpropane metabolism in fruits during storage. “Xintaihong” peach were treated with 0.5, 1.0, 1.5 mmol L−1 GSNO in 0.5% (w/v) β-CD solution (GSNO/β-CD). The effects of GSNO/β-CD on endogenous NO, H2S, and phenylpropane metabolism were investigated. Treatment with GSNO/β-CD increased the color difference of peach and inhibited the increase of respiratory intensity, weight loss, and relative conductivity. Treatment with 1.0 mmol… More >

Abstract Difenoconazole (DIF) is a representative variety of broad-spectrum triazole fungicides and liposoluble pesticides. However, the water solubility of DIF is so poor that its application is limited in plant protection. In addition, the conventional formulations of DIF always contain abundant organic solvents, which may cause pollution of the environment. In this study, two DIF/cyclodextrins (CDs) inclusion complexes (ICs) were successfully prepared, which were DIF/β-CD IC and DIF/hydroxypropyl-β-CD IC (DIF/HP-β-CD IC). The effect of cyclodextrins on the water solubility and the antifungal effect of liposoluble DIF pesticide were investigated. According to the phase solubility test, the More >

Abstract The study was sought to enhance the synthesis of thermal stable β-cyclodextrin glycosyltransferase (β-CGTase) using potato wastewater as a low-cost medium and assess the degree to which it is efficient for industrial production of β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) from raw potato starch. Thermophilic bacteria producing β-CGTase was isolated from Saudi Arabia and the promising strain was identified as Bacillus licheniformis using phylogenetic analysis of the 16S rRNA gene. Alginate-encapsulated cultures exhibited twice-fold of β-CGTase production more than free cells. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) of polymeric capsules indicated the potential for a longer shelf-life, which promotes the restoration of… More >

Fragrant Microcapsules Based on β-Cyclodextrin for Cosmetotextile Application

    Maroua Ben Abdelkader1,2,*, Nedra Azizi1, Ayda Baffoun3, Yves Chevalier2, Mustapha Majdoub1

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.7, No.12, pp. 1347-1362, 2019, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2019.07926

Abstract Microencapsulation of neroline inside microcapsules having a polyurethane shell based on β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) and hexane diisocyanate was performed by interfacial polycondensation. The polyol nature of β-CD caused tight crosslinking of microcapsules wall. Microcapsules of neroline were characterized for their chemical composition and structure of the polyurethane shell by FTIR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, optical and electron microscopy, light scattering and electrophoresis measurements. Core content and encapsulation yield were 15% and 60%, respectively. Spherical microcapsules of mean diameter 29 μm were slightly cationic with an isoelectric point of 6.3. Neroline-loaded microcapsules were fixed on cotton fabric using More >

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.4, No.1, pp. 9-17, 2016, DOI:10.7569/JRM.2015.634122

Abstract In recent years there has been an increasing demand for the application of natural products to address problems in the environment. The use of products derived from renewable resources can provide a sustainable strategy to replace totally or partially synthetic products. Cymbopogon, commonly known as lemongrass, is a tropical grass cultivated mostly for its essential oil, which has demonstrated several bioactivities, including antibacterial and antifungal properties. In the present work the formation of inclusion complex between β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) and lemongrass essential oil (LGEO) as well as its fi xation onto cotton fabric were investigated.
