Observation of Flowering Process of Grape (Vitis vinifera L.)—Insight into the Starting of Pollination of Flower Hiding in Calyptras (Cap)

    Yue Wang1,#, Xiujie Li2,#, Yusen Wu2, Zhonghui Cai1, Bo Li2, Zhaosen Xie1,*

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.92, No.6, pp. 1859-1871, 2023, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2023.027067 - 11 April 2023

Abstract It is generally agreed that many Vitis vinifera L. cultivars are self-fertile, where self-pollination often occurs before capfall in a process called cleistogamy. Therefore, it is difficult to identify the right time to remove stamens before self-pollination during the cross-breeding of grape. For this paper, we observed the process of grape flowering and measured the pollen viability and stigma receptivity of grape flowers of ‘Shine Muscat’ in order to identify the starting time of self-pollination before capfall and to provide useful information for improving the efficiency of cross-breeding. The results demonstrate that the anther is not… More >

Genome-Wide Identification and Expression Profiling of the Shaker K+ Channel and HAK/KUP/KT Transporter Gene Families in Grape (Vitis vinifera L.)

    Han Lei1,#, Junlin Li2,#, Zhizhong Song1,3,*

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.91, No.11, pp. 2519-2536, 2022, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2022.021268 - 12 July 2022

Abstract Potassium (K+) is an essential macronutrient for plants to maintain normal growth and development. Shaker-like K+ channels and HAK/KUP/KT transporters are critical components in the K+ acquisition and translocation. In this study, we identified 9 Shaker-like K+ channel (VvK) and 18 HAK/KUP/KT transporter (VvKUP) genes in grape, which were renamed according to their distributions in the genome and relative linear orders among the distinct chromosomes. Similar structure organizations were found within each group according to the exon/intron structure and protein motif analysis. Chromosomal distribution analysis showed that 9 VvK genes and 18 VvKUP genes were unevenly distributed on 7… More >

Phylogenetic analysis and target gene prediction of miR477 gene family in grape

    HUI-YING JIN1,2, MAO-SONG PEI1,2, DA-LONG GUO1,2,*

    BIOCELL, Vol.46, No.4, pp. 941-949, 2022, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2022.016718 - 15 December 2021

Abstract To understand the molecular characteristics of the miR477 gene family of grape (Vvi-miR477) and to predict its target genes, the Vvi-miR477 genes were identified from previous small RNA sequencing data, then phylogenetic analysis and prediction of target gene were conducted. The Vvi-miR477 family consists of two precursor sequences and three mature sequences. The miR477 family members were mostly 19-22nt in length. The sequence is relatively conservative. Vvi-MIR477a and Vvi-MIR477b are located on chromosomes 1 and 2, respectively. These precursor sequences can form the typical stable stem-loop structure. Their minimum folding free energy is −39.10 kcal/mol and −50.90 kcal/mol, More >

Grapevine Phenological Quantitative Trait SSR Genotyping Using High-Throughput HRM-PCR Analysis

    Murad Awad1, Photini V. Mylona2, Alexios N. Polidoros1,*

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.89, No.4, pp. 905-923, 2020, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2020.011235 - 09 November 2020

Abstract Discrimination among grapevine varieties based on quantitative traits, such as flowering, veraison and ripening dates is crucial for variety selection in the context of climate change and in breeding programs. These traits are under complex genetic control for which 6 linked SSR loci (VVS2, VVIn16, VMC7G3, VrZAG29, VMC5G7, and VVIB23) have been identified. Using these markers in HRM-PCR analysis, we assessed genetic diversity among a large collection of 192 grapevine varieties. The grapevine germplasm used encompasses the majority of Greek vineyard with 181 varieties, 3 prominent foreign varieties and 11 varieties of Palestinian origin. The… More >

Argentinean cultivars of Vitis vinifera grow better than european ones when cultured in vitro under salinity

JUAN B. CAVAGNARO, MARÍA T. PONCE, JAVIER GUZMÁN, MIGUEL A. CIRRINCIONE

    BIOCELL, Vol.30, No.1, pp. 1-7, 2006, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2006.30.001

Abstract Argentinean Vitis vinifera cultivars although originated from Europe, have clear ampelographic and genotypic differences as compared with the European cultivars currently used in wine making. In vitro evaluation of salt tolerance has been used in many species. Our hypothesis was that Argentinean cultivars are more tolerant to salinity than European ones. Three European cultivars, Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay and four Argentinean cultivars, Cereza, Criolla Chica, Pedro Gimenez and Torrontes Riojano were tested by in vitro culture. Treatments included: 1) Control, 2) 60 mEq/L of a mixture of three parts of NaCl and one part of CaCl2 and 3)… More >

Brief Note : Improved in vitro embryo development of stenospermic grape by putrescine

MARÍA TERESA PONCE, MÓNICA ELIZABETH GUIÑAZÚ, RICARDO TIZIO

    BIOCELL, Vol.26, No.2, pp. 263-266, 2002, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2002.26.263

Abstract The goal of this study was to determine the effect of putrescine, added to the culture medium, on the in vitro development of stenospermic grape (Vitis vinifera L) embryos. The cross breedings of Perlón x G.C88552 and Perlón x Argentina were used. 0 (control), 2 and 4 mM of putrescine were added to the immature seed’s culture medium. In Perlón x Argentina, 2mM of putrescine statistically increased the percentage of total embryos, direct germination, polyembryos and normal plants. In Perlón x G.C88552, only 2 mM of putrescine increased all the variables considered, eventually tripling the percentage of More >
