Summary

It is estimated that plant diseases cause 42% of crop losses annually around the globe. People are facing serious issues of food security and food safety, especially the developing and underdeveloped nations that are suffering from malnutrition as well.  In the current scenario, it is a great responsibility of the Plant scientists to explore and develop cost-effective, environmentally safe, and effective means of controlling plant diseases and to protect and improve the cops’ yield. Recent advancements in the field of biological and crop sciences paved the way to develop more efficient and effective disease management strategies. 

The emerging advanced approaches in the field of microbiology, biotechnology, and bioinformatics and their extensive applications in plant pathology open up new horizons with broad perspectives for controlling plant diseases based on innovative tools employing basic and applied research. 

This special issue is focusing on quality original articles in the field of pathology, pathogen taxonomy, and plant molecular biology. We welcome the contributions of traditional to molecular approaches for sustainable disease management in plants. 

We are looking forward to receiving the original research articles, and review papers on Phytopathogenomics, taxonomy, genome editing, computational biology, plant-microbe interaction, pathogenesis, chemical, and alternative disease control methods, conventional breeding, and molecular breeding for disease resistance.
