Summary

Soil salinization, particularly in coastal and arid regions, severely threatens global agricultural productivity, impacting crop growth and exacerbating weed competitiveness. This special issue seeks to advance the understanding of salinization's effects on plant systems and to develop innovative strategies for sustainable management. We welcome contributions across various disciplines, including soil science, plant physiology, agronomy, and environmental science. Topics of interest include:

1. Effects of salinity on seed germination, seedling establishment, root development, and nutrient uptake.

2. Physiological and biochemical responses of crops and weeds to saline conditions.

3. Competitive interactions and adaptive mechanisms in saline environments.

4. The influence of soil pH and microbiomes (e.g., arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi) on plant resistance.

5. Technological advancements like remote sensing and AI in salinity assessment.

6. Policy and socio-economic strategies for salinity mitigation.

By addressing these areas, this issue aims to foster interdisciplinary research and practical solutions to mitigate salinity’s impact on agriculture.
