Summary
Both medicinal and aromatic plants are currently attracting increasing attention because of the wide range of their potential applications. Different drugs derived from plants empirically utilized by ancient civilizations throughout the millennia are currently included in modern pharmacotherapy. At the same time, a huge number of essential oils, volatile compounds extracted from aromatic plants, are currently used not only in the perfume industry, but also in the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries, or as natural repellent and insecticidal agents.
The use of plant extracts, essential oils and bioactive compounds from plants need to be supported by a robust research, regarding both the phytochemical composition and the biological properties. Moreover, the botanical aspects and the rigorous identification of the species of interest are fundamental.
This Special issue will focus on medicinal and aromatic plants, their active principles, and their in vitro and in vivo biological properties. Both original research articles and reviews are welcome.
