Summary

Cancer and infectious diseases are intricately linked, with pathogens playing significant roles in oncogenesis, tumour progression, and immune modulation. This special issue focuses on the complex interplay between pathogens—such as viruses, bacteria, and parasites—and cancer, highlighting molecular mechanisms of pathogen-induced carcinogenesis, immune system interactions, and novel therapeutic targets. Contributions cover a range of topics, including viral oncogenes, chronic infection-associated inflammation, microbiome influence on cancer susceptibility, and pathogen-based immunotherapies. By examining these pathogen-cancer connections, this issue aims to deepen understanding of cancer pathogenesis and advance translational approaches for prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of infection-related malignancies.
