Feedback from Professionals on the Care of Cancer Patients during the COVID-19 Epidemic in the Brittany Region

Abstract

Since October 2020, the COVID-19 epidemic has affected the care of patients in the field of oncology/hematology in the public and private establishments. The “Unité de coordination en onco-geriatrie région Bretagne” (coordinating unit in onco-geriatrics of the Brittany region) has wished to have a survey with specialists in cancerology so as to make an inventory of the care given to cancer patients aged over 75 in the region. An inquest was made in the course of October 2020, following the first lock down, with 24 specialists. 67% of them feel they lack in clear orders/institutional prescriptions related with this epidemic. 46% answered that they lack in communication supports for patients concerning this health context. Then UCOG Bretagne worked out a consciousness-raising poster “COVID and Cancer” in collaboration with the Ligue Contre le Cancer Bretagne (the Brittany League against Cancer), the ARS ( the Health Regional Agency), the CPAM (the Health Insurance Office) OMEDIT, and the Oncobretagne network.

RÉSUMÉ
Depuis mars 2020, l’épidémie de la COVID-19 impacte la prise en charge des patients dans le secteur de l’oncologie/hématologie dans les établissements de santé publics et privés. L’Unité de Coordination en Onco-Gériatrie région Bretagne a initié une enquête auprès des spécialistes en cancérologie afin de faire un état des lieux sur la prise en charge des patients atteints de cancer et âgés de plus de 75 ans dans la région. L’enquête a étéréalisée courant octobre 2020, post premier confinement, auprès de 24 spécialistes. 67% des spécialistes ont le sentiment de manquer de consignes claires/protocoles institutionnels en relation avec cette épidémie. 46% ont répondu manquer de support de communication destinés aux patients concernant ce contexte sanitaire. L’UCOG Bretagne a donc élaboré une affiche de sensibilisation « COVID et Cancer » à destination des patients en collaboration avec la Ligue Contre le Cancer Bretagne, l’ARS, la CPAM, l’OMEDIT et le réseau OncoBretagne.
