Abstract Due to more complex and severe design, more effective and faster finite element analyses are demanded. One of the most effective analysis ways is the combination of adaptive analysis and multigrid iterative solver, because an adaptive analysis requires several meshes with different node densities and multigrid solver utilizes such meshes to accelerate its computation. However, convergence of multigrid solver is largely affected by initial shape of each element. An effective mesh improvement method is proposed here. It is the combination of mesh coarsening and refinement. A good mesh can be obtained by the method to be applied to an initial… More >

Abstract The history of meshless collocation methods featured plenty of nicely calculated practical solutions, but a solid mathematical basis was long missing for the most popular asymmetric technique introduced by E. Kansa. Thus the impact of this work will be to supply a lasting mathematical foundation which will also improve our general understanding of such technique. Our previous research gave a convergent algorithm. More >

Abstract This paper presents an optimization of the wire-Electric Discharge Machining (EDM) cutting parameter at welding joint area. The experiment is conducted during a gear shape optimization process by reducing the gear material and weight. Some area of the gear is welded for material joining process. The wire-EDM cutting process is conducted by cutting at the single material and welding area. The parameters of cutting process such as wire speeds, wire tensions and wire voltage are considered to be optimized. The cutting condition at the single and double materials area is compared. The result of the experiment shows that the cutting… More >

Abstract The ear can be divided anatomically, into three parts: external, middle, and inner ear. The eardrum separates the external from the middle ear. The perforation of the eardrum can result in conductive moderate hearing loss. More >

Abstract The contact interaction of opposite faces of cracks in 2-D and 3-D solid is studied. The case of a normal time-harmonic wave loading is studied in more details. The distribution of stress intensity factors as functions of the wave number is investigated. The results are compared with those obtained for cracks without allowance for the contact interaction. Abstract The purpose of this research is to develop a new technique to measure the corrosion level of reinforcing rebar which embedded in reinforced concrete structures using infrared(IR) thermographical image. IR thermography has been used various applications for non-destructive test(NDT) area, however, IR thermographical data depend on many parameters that the assessment of reliability and stability becomes very important issue to utilize IR thermographical system. This study presents a technique to quantitatively measure the corrosion level of a reinforcing bar using proposed infrared thermography measurement system. We found out electric heating method has an important effect on active IR thermography at… More >

Abstract A meshless local Petrov-Galerkin (MLPG) method is applied to solve thermal bending problems described by the Reissner-Mindlin theory. Functionally graded material properties with continuous variation in the plate thickness direction are considered too. A weak formulation for the set of governing equations in the Reissner-Mindlin theory is transformed into local integral equations on local subdomains in the mean surface of the plate with using a unit test function. The meshless approximation based on the Moving Least-Squares (MLS) method is employed for the implementation. More >
