Effects of Different Weight Functions on Convergent Property of SFDI

    Q.W. Ma1
The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.5, No.1, pp. 1-6, 2008, DOI:10.3970/icces.2008.005.001
Abstract In the MLPG_R (Meshless Local Petrove-Galerkin based on Rankine source solution) method, one needs a meshless interpolation scheme for an unknown function to discretise the governing equation. A new scheme, called simplified finite difference interpolation (SFDI) has been recently devised by the author, which is more efficient and has better convergent property than others. This paper will discuss about how the convergent property is affected by different weight functions. More >

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.5, No.1, pp. 7-14, 2008, DOI:10.3970/icces.2008.005.007
Abstract An 11.8m-long gliding-hydrofoil craft with a T-formed hydrofoil and shallow V-shaped bottom is chosen to carry on in this work. Resistance test in towering tank is the main method. Two different installation angle (-1.5° and 0° ) of hydrofoil are conducted and the tests were done separately. Relevant results of different resistance performance have been got under the influence of different hydrofoil installation angle. More >

Application of System Dynamics in Analysis of Carrying Capacity of Water Resources in Yiwu City of China

    L. H. Feng1, J. H. Feng1
The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.5, No.1, pp. 15-20, 2008, DOI:10.3970/icces.2008.005.015
Abstract The primary scheme of unilaterally pursuing fast economic development at the expense of the environment and the secondary scheme focusing on environmental protection as the primary goal by slowing economic development are both undesirable for Yiwu. The third scheme balancing economic development with environmental protection is the most effective scheme. More >

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.5, No.1, pp. 21-26, 2008, DOI:10.3970/icces.2008.005.021
Abstract This is the first attempt toward the development of robust design methodology applicable to gaskets as there is no such precedent in the sealing industry. This was achieved by drastically transforming the traditional approach toward the solution to leaking problem. This paper deals with a new all-metal gasket that incorporates strategically located circumferential annular lips that form seal lines with the flanges. The gasket, due to its special shape makes use of the material's spring effect, resulting in sealing performance. This approach is clearly distinct from the traditional one based on material development. By transforming More >

Asymptotic Mode-I Crack-tip Stress Fields for Orthotropic Graded Materials

    Vijaya Bhaskar Chalivendra1
The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.5, No.1, pp. 27-34, 2008, DOI:10.3970/icces.2008.005.027
Abstract Asymptotic analysis coupled with Westergaard stress function approach is used to develop quasi-static stress fields for a crack oriented along one of the principal axes of inhomogeneous orthotropic medium. In the formulation, four independent engineering constants, E11, E22, G12, v12 are replaced by an effective stiffness E = √E11E22, a stiffness ratio δ = (E11/E22), an effective Poisson's ratio v = √v12v21, and a shear parameter k = (E/2G12)-v. It is assumed that the effective stiffness varies exponentially along one of the principal axes of orthotropy. The first two terms in the expansion of stress field are derived to explicitly bring More >

Nonlinear Vibration Analysis of a Fluid-Loaded Plate in Magnetic Field

    T-P. Chang1, M-F. Liu2
The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.5, No.1, pp. 35-40, 2008, DOI:10.3970/icces.2008.005.035
Abstract In the present study, we perform the non-linear vibration analysis of an elastic plate subjected to weak fluid loading in an inclined magnetic field. The structural nonlinearity, fluid nonlinearity, and the effects of magnetic field are all incorporated in the formulations to derive the governing equation of the plate. The method of multiple scales is adopted to determine the eigenvalues and mode shapes of the linear vibration, and then the amplitude of the nonlinear vibration response of the plate is calculated. Based on the assumptions of ordering and formulations of multiple scales, it can be… More >

Intersection of Slender Longitudinal Vortices by Shock Waves

    E. Krause1, W. Schröder1, M. Klaas1, O. Thomer1
The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.5, No.1, pp. 41-46, 2008, DOI:10.3970/icces.2008.005.041
Abstract In supersonic flow the leading edge vortex of delta wings can encounter intersection by an oblique or a normal shock. The resulting interaction between the two influences the aerodynamic forces, in particular the lift, especially if vortex breakdown occurs. This problem was studied in an idealized form by assuming an isolated slender vortex being intersected by an oblique and a normal shock, respectively. The investigation was carried out in two coordinated companion studies, one using numerical solutions of the Euler and Navier-Stokes equations, and the other experimental techniques, i. e. flow visualization methods, and Laser-Doppler More >
