The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.19, No.2, pp. 33-34, 2011, DOI:10.3970/icces.2011.019.033
Abstract In this paper, a novel method, named the perturbed dynamical method, is proposed to solve nonlinear systems whose Jacobian matrix is singular. The concept of the proposed method roots from the conventional homotopy method but it takes the advantages of converting a vector function to a scalar function by using the square norm of the vector function to conduct a scalar-based homotopy method. Then, a small parameter, which is similar to the perturbation theory, is introduced to the singular systems of nonlinear equations such that the modified singular systems of nonlinear equations become nonsingular and More >

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.19, No.2, pp. 35-36, 2011, DOI:10.3970/icces.2011.019.035
Abstract In this study, the exponentially convergent scalar homotopy algorithm (ECSHA) is proposed to solve the nonlinear optimization problems under equality and inequality constraints. The Kuhn-Tucker optimality conditions associated with NCP-functions are adopted to transform the nonlinear optimization problems into a set of nonlinear algebraic equations. Then the ECSHA is used to solve the resultant nonlinear equations. The proposed scheme keeps the merit of the conventional homotopy method, such as global convergence, but the inverse of the Jacobian matrix is avoid with the aid of the scalar homotopy function. Abstract Recently composite materials are widely used in the building of transport airplanes. The first significant application of composite materials in commercial transports was an all composite rudder for A300/310 by Airbus in 1983. In 1985, Airbus introduced a composite vertical tail fin in the same airplanes. With the success of A300/310, Airbus introduced a full composite tail structure for A320. The composite weight of A320 is totaled to 15% of structure weight. In the late of 1970, NASA and major airframe companies such as Boeing, Lockheed, MD started the ACEE program. The main goal of… More >

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.19, No.2, pp. 39-40, 2011, DOI:10.3970/icces.2011.019.039
Abstract A two-dimensional heterogeneous hybrid moisture element method (HHMEM) for modeling transient moisture diffusion in permeable fiber-reinforced polymer composites is proposed in this paper.
The HHMEM scheme is based on a heterogeneous hybrid moisture element (HHME), whose properties are determined by equivalent moisture capacitance and conductance matrixes calculated using the conventional finite element formulation with the similarity mass/stiffness property and matrix condensing operations. A coupled HHME-FE scheme is developed and implemented in computer codes MATLAB to analyze the transient moisture diffusion characteristics of polymeric composite materials containing multiple permeable fibers. The analysis commences by comparing the… More >

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.19, No.2, pp. 43-44, 2011, DOI:10.3970/icces.2011.019.043
Abstract This paper focuses on the methodologies on strength and buckling of typical submarine pipeline (Pipe-in-pipe system) under high temperature and high pressure (HT/HP) conditions. The internal high pressure and high temperature of oil/gas, external hydraulic pressure in deepwater, variational frictional force of soil, and the complex structure of the PIP system make the equilibrium equation of the subsea pipeline exhibit strong nonlinear performance in such nonlinear boundary conditions. The numerical methods are summarized for solving the nonlinear equations in this paper. The paper also presents evaluation methods for the lateral and upheaval buckling of two More >

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.19, No.2, pp. 49-50, 2011, DOI:10.3970/icces.2011.019.049
Abstract The need to assess the structural capability of marine composite structures that support the T-joints of composite ships has increased due to the rise in the number of accidents and human casualties. In this paper, the delamination behavior of T-joint under out-of-plane load was studied based on the cohesive zone damage model(CZD). Maximum interlaminar stress criterion was used to govern the damage initiation, and a bilinear damage evolution law was adopted to characterize the damage growth. The whole delamination process of T-joint was simulated and stress level after each delamination was characterized. The relationship between More >

The energetic and mechanical strength of 6 i?"<110> symmetric tilt GBs are investigated in nanocrystalline Cu and Ni. We focus on discussing the interaction of the structural units of symmetric tilt GB for the initial deformation mode and the strength of model. At the basis of the previous, We study the nanocrystalline Cu/a-Al2O3 interface and analyze the relationship during the grains orientations, GB energy and interface. Abstract The behavior of structures due to blast loading is conveniently represented with single degree of freedom (SDOF) models. These simplifying models try to evaluate a structure using only one physical degree of freedom, the horizontal deflection. Advantages that still indicate the use of these state-of-practice or common practice models include the quick evaluation for assessment of structures, intuitive transition from static to dynamic models. The aim of this study is to estimate the maximum transient displacement and final (permanent) displacement of corrugated panels subjected to uniformly distributed dynamic loads using LS-DYNA and SDOF.
