Abstract In this work, we present a compliment of the spectral perturbation method (SPM) for solving nonlinear partial differential equations (PDEs) with applications in fluid flow problems. The (SPM) is a series expansion based approach that uses the Chebyshev spectral collocation method to solve the governing sequence of differential equation generated by the perturbation series approximation. Previously the SPM had the limitation of being used to solve problems with small parameters only. This current investigation seeks to improve the performance of the SPM by doing the series expansion about a large parameter. The new method namely… More >

Using potential vector-vorticity formulation in its three-dimensional form, the governing equations are formulated and solved by the numerical methodology based on the finite volume method. The main objective is to analyze the effects of buoyancy ratio for opposed temperature and concentration gradients and to focus the attention on three-dimensional aspects and More >

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.9, pp. 1-6, 2017, DOI:10.5098/hmt.9.7
Abstract The spectral relaxation method is employed to examine natural convective heat and mass transfer, MHD flow over a permeable moving vertical plate with convective boundary conditions in the presence of viscous dissipation, thermal radiation and chemical reaction. The governing partial differential equations were transformed into a system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations by using a similarity approach. The resultant dimensionless ordinary equations were numerically solved by employing an effective Relaxation spectral algorithm with Chebyshev scheme. The pertinent results are then displayed in tabular form and graphically More >

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.9, pp. 1-8, 2017, DOI:10.5098/hmt.9.6
Abstract Combines theories of gas dynamics, fluid dynamics and numerical heat transfer theory, the condensing flow characteristics of water vapor in wet natural gas within the Laval nozzle were studied. A mathematical model was developed to predict the spontaneous condensing phenomenon in the supersonic flows using the classical nucleation and droplet growth theories. The numerical approach is validated with the experimental data by using UDF and UDS modules in FLUENT software, which shows a good agreement between them, and showed that the mathematical model can better predict the parameter changes in the condensation process. The condensation… More >

Abstract Present study concerned with the theoretical work with numerical investigation of MHD transient naturally convective and higher order chemically reactive viscoelastic fluid with nano-particle flow through a vertical porous stretching sheet with the effects of heat generation and radiation absorption. A boundary layer approximation is carried out to develop a flow model representing time dependent momentum, energy, and concentration equations. The governing model equations in partial differential equations (PDEs) form were transformed into a set of nonlinear ordinary differential equation (ODEs) by using non-similar technique. Explicit Finite Difference Method (EFDM) was employed by implementing an… More >

Abstract This article presents the effect of nonlinear thermal radiation on boundary layer flow and heat transfer of Carreau fluid model over a nonlinear stretching sheet embedded in a porous medium in the presence of non-uniform heat source/sink and viscous dissipation with convective boundary condition. The governing partial differential equations with the corresponding boundary conditions are reduced to a set of ordinary differential equations using similarity transformation, which is then solved numerically by the fourth-fifth order Runge–Kutta-Fehlberg integration scheme featuring a shooting technique. The influence of significant parameters such as power law index parameter, Stretching parameter, More >

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.9, pp. 1-7, 2017, DOI:10.5098/hmt.9.3
Abstract The effect of non-linear thermal radiation on nanofluid flow over a riga plate is studied. Under some conditions, our problem reduces to the Blasius problem and Sakiadis problem. Similarity transformation is used to convert the governing steady Navier-Stokes equations into a system of coupled nonlinear differential equations, which are then solved numerically via Runge-Kutta-Fehlberg 45 order method along with a shooting method. Influence of parameters involved on velocity, temperature and concentration profiles is discussed with the help of graphical aid. Numerical results have been presented on the skin-friction coefficients, local Nusselt number and Sherwood number. More >

Abstract In this article, we investigate the nonlinear steady state boundary layer flow and heat transfer of an incompressible Jeffery non-Newtonian fluid from a permeable horizontal isothermal cylinder. The transformed conservation equations are solved numerically subject to physically appropriate boundary conditions using a versatile, implicit, finite-difference technique. The numerical code is validated with previous studies. The influence of a number of emerging non-dimensional parameters, namely with Deborah number (De), surface suction parameter (S), Prandtl number (Pr), ratio of relaxation to retardation times (λ) and dimensionless tangential coordinate (ξ) on velocity and temperature evolution in the boundary… More >

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.9, pp. 1-6, 2017, DOI:10.5098/hmt.9.1
Abstract The onset of turbulence in natural convection systems is difficult to predict using traditional computational techniques. The flow patterns that occur before and after the onset of turbulence may be better understood with the help of visual techniques like Schlieren imaging. Schlieren imaging allows visualization of the density gradients of a fluid using collimated light and refractive properties. In this experiment, a device was designed to test the behavior of airflow with non-isothermal boundary conditions within a rectangular cavity. Previous computational fluid modeling suggested a period doubling route to chaos in a cavity with a… More >
