Summary
The rapid growth in global energy usage has led to critical challenges such as energy shortages and environmental pollution. Increasing awareness of climate change and the adverse effects of carbon-based fuels has accelerated interest in renewable electricity generation. Among renewable energy sources, solar energy stands out as a sustainable and environmentally friendly solution, widely adopted across domestic, industrial, rural, and transportation sectors. Solar energy is utilized primarily for electricity generation and thermal applications. Solar photovoltaic (PV) technology converts solar energy directly into electricity using semiconductor materials. Meanwhile, solar thermal systems harness the sun’s energy to heat water or air for various applications, including heating and cooling for homes and Industries. These systems are also used for power generation, such as in concentrated solar power (CSP) plants. As the world transitions to cleaner and more sustainable energy solutions, it is important to explore the potential of advanced materials and technologies to improve solar energy systems' efficiency, reliability, and sustainability. This special issue aims to showcase the latest advancements and research breakthroughs in Solar Thermal and Photovoltaic (PV) systems, focusing on innovative materials, cutting-edge technologies, and novel applications. By documenting innovative solutions and applications, it seeks to accelerate the adoption of Solar PV and Thermal systems, contributing to a sustainable and energy-resilient future. It also aspires to contribute to the ongoing global efforts toward achieving a low-carbon and energy-secure future by fostering interdisciplinary collaboration at the intersection of energy transition, sustainability, and innovation
