Summary

Sensor systems bring us new opportunities to monitor the environment in a low-cost way. For example, wearable sensor systems make it easier for every individual to obtain personal health information. This collected information can be handled by Big Data and several Artificial Intelligence systems to create a new application through automated decision-making. To implement this system, recent advanced wireless communications systems can be the bridge between collecting and utilizing. To integrate them, many research issues need to be addressed. In this special issue, we willingly welcome all researchers to consider technological advances in wireless networked sensing and the integration of interdisciplinary engineering/science technologies to contribute to sustainable growth in both theoretical and practical aspects of the field. Topics of interest but not limited to:

i. Innovative Sensor Technologies: Development of new sensors with enhanced capabilities such as increased sensitivity, miniaturization, sensor fusion, and multi-functionality.

ii. Wireless Communication Techniques: low-power wide-area networks (LPWAN), 5G, and future 6G technologies for sensors.

iii. Network Architecture and Management: Design and optimization of network architectures for scalable and resilient wireless sensor networks, including topics such as network topology, reliability, resource allocation, and fault tolerance.

iv. Data Processing and Analytics: Techniques for managing and analysing large volumes of sensor data, including real-time processing, machine learning algorithms, and data fusion methods including autonomous agents.

v. Applications of Wireless Networked Sensing: Case studies and innovative applications in diverse fields such as environmental monitoring, smart cities, healthcare, agriculture, and industrial automation.

vi. Security and Privacy Issues: Challenges and solutions related to the security and privacy of wireless sensor networks, including data protection, authentication mechanisms, and attack mitigation strategies.
