Summary
Protein misfolding and aggregation are central to the pathology of several neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease. This special issue aims to delve into the cellular and molecular underpinnings of these protein misfolding diseases, with a focus on understanding the intricate processes that drive disease progression and exploring innovative therapeutic approaches.
By gathering leading research from global experts, this issue seeks to illuminate the fundamental mechanisms and identify new therapeutic targets for combating these debilitating disorders. Key areas of focus include, but are not limited to:
1. Protein Targeting and Membrane Transport:
· Investigating the cellular pathways that govern protein targeting and transport across membranes.
· Understanding how dysfunctions in these pathways contribute to protein aggregation and neurodegeneration.
2. Protein Folding, Misfolding, and Amyloid Formation:
· Exploring the molecular mechanisms of protein folding and misfolding.
· Examining how amyloid formation contributes to the development and progression of neurodegenerative diseases.
3. Membrane Protein Biogenesis:
· Studying the biogenesis of membrane proteins and its impact on cellular health.
· Analyzing how disruptions in membrane protein biogenesis are linked to disease states.
