Summary
Mitochondrial biology and biochemistry are a rapidly evolving field of research that focuses on basic and clinical application, given the central role of mitochondria in energy production, oxidative stress, apoptosis, and cell signaling. Understanding mitochondrial mechanisms has undoubtedly proven critical to understanding many diseases.
The special issue aims to bring together the latest scientific developments in the molecular mechanisms and cellular role of mitochondria. It seeks to advance research into mitochondrial functions and encourage the submission of studies that will illuminate new therapeutic targets.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
1. Mitochondrial biogenesis and dynamics
2. Mitochondria and oxidative stress
3. Mitochondrial dysfunction and disease
4. Autophagy and mitophagy
5. Mitochondria in the immune response
6. Mitochondria in aging and longevity
7. Innovative technologies for the study of mitochondria
