Summary
Background of Social/Behavioral Sciences and Mental Health
Social and behavioral sciences (SBS) encompass a broad range of disciplines, such as psychology, sociology, anthropology, and public health, focusing on understanding human behavior and social structures. Within this context, mental health is a critical area of study as it is influenced by a variety of social, cultural, and behavioral factors. Social and behavioral sciences explore how these factors contribute to mental health outcomes, helping to identify societal and individual contributors to psychological well-being or distress.
The aim and scope
Both the individual or the integration of social and behavioral sciences into mental health research continues to improve the understanding of how social environments and individual behaviors contribute to mental health, thereby shaping policies and interventions that aim to enhance psychological well-being across populations from child through the elderly. This interdisciplinary perspective, encapsulated in the theme “Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Social and Behavioral Determinants of Mental Health: From Theory to Practice,” is designed to promote psychological well-being across diverse populations, spanning from childhood through old age. By bridging theory and practice, this approach seeks to translate empirical findings into actionable strategies for enhancing mental health outcomes on both individual and societal levels.
The themes of this special issue include:
1. The Role of Social Determinants
2. Impact of Social Support on mental health
3. Lifestyles and Behaviors on mental health
4. Behavioral Interventions for Mental Health
5. Cultural Factors in Mental Health
6. Stress and Coping Mechanisms
7. Prevention of Mental Health
